Hedland Aboriginal Youth Sport Connect Development Officer
Blending your love of sports programs and participation, this is a very exciting new role combining the development, participation, education and leadership of three sports: cricket, basketball and Australian Rules Football, in the Port Hedland region.
About the Role
While the role will report through to the WA Cricket Project Officer – Aboriginal Cricket, this is a joint initiative with WA Cricket, Basketball WA and the WA Football Commission. This is a full time, fixed term 9 month role, commencing in August 2022, based in Port Hedland.
As the Hedland Aboriginal Youth Sport Connect Development Officer, your main responsibility will be the effective delivery of the Hedland Aboriginal Youth Sport Connect Initiative (HAYSCI) which aims to engage Aboriginal Youth in a collaborative and localised multi-sport approach.
The HAYSCI programs will take place during school holidays and after school offering positive, healthy, educational and social sporting activities. It will draw on the expertise of stakeholders and partners at a local, regional and state level and will promote physical activity, wellbeing, leadership and community connectedness.
In addition, you will also be responsible for specifically developing and growing the game of basketball in the region.
Key Responsibilities include:
Hedland Aboriginal Youth Sport Connect Coordinator – 3 days a week
- Coordinate the effective delivery of leadership, holiday and in term programs associated with HAYSCI.
- Support HAYSCI program development, communications, and marketing to promote the program to key stakeholders.
- Coordinate training and coaching across the three sports – assisting in delivery of introductory coaching courses that are sport specific.
- Support staff of each State Sporting Association in the delivery of multiple programs.
- Liaise internally with other WA Cricket, Hedland Youth Stakeholder Action Group (HYSAG) and HAYSCI partners staff to secure facilities and manage access to program delivery.
- Manage access to rooms, playing facilities and equipment to deliver both practical and education activities.
- Coordinate and oversee activities and activation on each day of the program.
Basketball WA Development Officer - 2 days a week
- Coordinate the planning, management, and delivery of all junior basketball programs, including all training courses sanctioned by the association.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse range of key stakeholders, representing the organisation in the community and industry.
- Provide key support and assistance where possible to the All Hedland Basketball Association
- About you
To succeed in this role, you will possess:
- Experience in delivering sports programs or events
- Highly developed interpersonal skills and proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships
- High level of presentation skills
- Results orientated with a strong work ethic
- Ability to use Microsoft Office suite of programs
- Ability to work autonomously and ability to handle multiple deadlines
- Experience working with people with from other diverse backgrounds (desired)
- An understanding of community cricket, basketball and Australian Rules (desired)
