HIPPY Home Mentor is a casual position.
HIPPY (Home Interaction Program for Parents and Youngsters) is a free, two-year, home-based early childhood learning program that empowers parents and carers to be their child's first teacher. Families that live in the Wyong Shire catchment area start HIPPY two years before school.
HIPPY mentors are parents or carers involved in HIPPY, either currently or in the past 12 months.
HIPPY mentors are employed by Uniting for up to two years to provide peer support and deliver HIPPY to families. HIPPY mentors visit parents in their homes or a community location to practice HIPPY activities and assist in running fortnightly meetings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Organise and meet with between 10-15 HIPPY families every week to practice the activities and deliver HIPPY materials in the home or at a HIPPY gathering.
- Prepare weekly materials and equipment in readiness for home visits, and HIPPY gatherings.
- Support parents to provide regular feedback regarding their participation in all aspects of the program including home visits and HIPPY gatherings.
- Develop relationships with families that will support the development of their skills and confidence.
- Refer HIPPY families to the HIPPY Coordinator if they need additional support or assistance.
- Attend and participate in weekly training, regular staff development and supervision.
- Be a parent or carer participating in the HIPPY program or a parent that participated in the HIPPY program within the last 12 months.
- Willing to work within the HIPPY program for up to 2 years.
- Identify with the local community and commit to working in the community.
- Interest and enthusiasm in supporting other families
- Current driver's licence and willingness to use own or private vehicle.
Employment with Uniting is subject to satisfactory background checks which include a National Police Check and WWCC and confirmation of covid vaccinations.
