About the Role
The Anatomical Pathology Department is seeking a highly motivated experienced Medical Scientist for our Laboratory. You will rotate throughout various disciplines (Main Lab, Immunohistochemistry, Surgical Cut-up, Molecular) of the Anatomical Pathology laboratory.
Classifications for this position will range from RY4 - RY7 ($92,627 - $104,811 per annum).
Summary of Duties
Histopathology Laboratory
- Assisting in assessing and maintaining daily QA of the laboratory
- Produce high quality, accurate and timely preparations
- To assist the Principal Scientist and the supervising section scientists in all aspects of leadership, supervision and policy development
- To be a leader and innovator in specialty areas according to the needs of the department.
Surgical Cut-up
- Assist supervising scientist with maintaining staff competencies in line with NPAAC requirements for rotating staff in the Surgical Cut-Up area.
- Ensure staff maintain acceptable service delivery and turn-around-times.
- Ensure appropriate maintenance procedures for the instruments of the section are performed and logged.
- Monitor internal quality control performance.
Immunohistochemistry Laboratory
- Participate in monitoring staining procedures and preparation to guarantee optimum quality
- Participate in and assist the senior scientist improve the quality of Immunohistochemistry preparations to meet the laboratory standard
- Participate in internal and external scientific meetings with scientists and pathologists
Molecular Laboratory (FISH)
Fluorescence in-situ Hybridisation:
- FISH procedure
- FISH Scoring
Your Contribution
- Degree of Bachelor of Applied Science (MLS) or equivalent
- Any further education - Graduate diplomas, Masters or PhD studies in relevant discipline
- Minimum of 7 years in a diagnostic Histopathology laboratory
- Good knowledge of routine Histopathology laboratory practice, including frozen sections Surgical Cut-up, Immunohistochemistry techniques
- Current National criminal history check

Our laboratory is committed to providing the most comprehensive range of diagnostic services available, it is N.A.T.A. and R.C.P.A. accredited. The consultants are specialists in a wide range of histological, molecular and cytopathological investigations. They are supported by Medical Scientists and technicians with considerable experience in all areas of anatomical pathology.
