About the role – Full-Time Maximum Term contract until 11 October 2024

The Homeless Practitioner is the first contact for clients entering orseeking homeless support. The position contributes to embedding an innovativeAboriginal designed service model known as Wardli-ana where team members willwork with our collaborators across the Toward Home Alliance inmulti-disciplinary teams. The Towards Home Alliance is guided by a unitedvision of Ending Homelessness through services which are bold andtrans-formative. As a committed Homeless Practitioner, you will work within a restorativepractice framework and ensure cultural accountability. Aboriginal and TorresStrait Islander peoples are encouraged to apply.

The location of this role will be based in Adelaide CBD, with thewillingness to travel based on client needs.

Your responsibilities will also include:

  • With an understanding of collective culture, you will build safe, trusting and consistent relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients and their community members
  • Grow our clients support system and ensure they are referred to and can access any supports they require both personal and professional
  • Timely record keeping of client information as per data collection methodology in program operational manual
  • Ability to recognise and assess risk, and escalate where required

About you:

You truly understand and advocatefor Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, ensuring they have a voiceto contribute to change. You will quickly find your place within a supportiveteam, who share knowledge, feedback and celebrate the small wins.  

You will also have the following skills and experience:

  • Certificate IV in Community Services or related field, or relevant experience in lieu of
  • Previous experience in working with vulnerable and at-risk people, particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and communities
  • Track record of successfully engaging with clients and building relationships
  • Organised, strong time management and administration skills
  • Highly developed written and interpersonal communication skills and ability to persuasively apply them in a complex working environment

Specific Requirements:

You will be required to have, or be willing to obtain: 

  • Full unrestricted South AustraliaDriver’s Licence 
  • DHS Child-Related Employment Screeningor Working With Children Check
  • National Police Clearance
  • A current Provide First Aid Certificate
  • Travel within South Australia
  • A Safe Environments for Children andYoung People Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
