Buchanan Downs Station is a cattle station operated on 125,000 hectares. The station breeds and raises predominantly Brahman beef cattle for breeding stock and sale. Cattle are sold for live export to the Indonesian market and to abattoirs in Queensland, NSW and Victoria and to restockers. Horses are trained and maintained to assist with the mustering and movement of the cattle throughout the year.
We require a Horse Trainer to join us in Birdum, Northern Territory.
Key responsibilities include:
- Training horses to riders and conditioning horses to perform in daily mustering applications;
- Attending to health conditions and/or reporting health conditions to Owner;
- Ensuring adequate feeding and watering facilities for horses;
- Exercising and transporting horses;
- Inspecting, preparing, cleaning, disinfecting and maintaining comfortable horse enclosures
- Preparing horses for riding and mustering;
- Reporting to owners on horses’ progress and performance;
- Teaching horses to obey verbal and non-verbal commands and addressing behavioural problems;
- Training horses for application in the mustering of cattle.
To be considered you must have completed a relevant Tertiary Qualification and have at least 3 years of post-qualification employment experience as a Horse Trainer OR; have at least 5 years of employment experience as a Horse Trainer.
