We have an exciting opportunity for someone to undertake the role of Horticulturalist 38 hours per week.
The Horticulturalist is a member of the Facilities Management team and is responsible for supervising, planning, monitoring and controlling of horticultural maintenance works to the Administrative Centre building and other assets as required.
This exciting role will:
- Provide site supervision of Council’s employees, day labour workforce, apprentices, contractors and subcontractors as necessary. Work in a team and use small plant to appropriate standards and practices
- Assist the Coordinator to achieve priorities and effective and efficient use of resources including timeliness, sequence and cost
- Direct and assist in other work like manual handling, planting, feeding, mulching, weed control, and pest control and other landscaping improvement activities
- Respond to problems and treatments in various landscaping finishes ensuring the safe use of herbicides and pesticide to those areas
- Stock management of horticultural materials, sustenance supplies and equipment to ensure sufficient stocks are on hand and suitably secured
- Provide technical support to work practices and recommend solutions
- Provide training and guidance, including assessment and training of apprentices and work assistants and apply appropriate disciplinary standards
- Assist the Coordinator with insurance claims, accident reports, progress reports, administrative matters, costs, estimates, forward planning programmes and updates
- Check the condition of each area being worked on and act on or report any instances where there may be danger to Councillors, employees or the public
- Follow operating procedures, quality standards, safety measures, and environmental controls including preparing
- Risk Assessments and Work Method Statements.
- Ensure security of designated work areas and compounds

LET’S HEAR ABOUT YOU
- Hold a current Class C manual drivers’ licence
- Have a Certificate III Horticultural and Chemical Safety AQF Level 3 Accreditation
- You are a reliable team player who prides themselves on completing their tasks efficiently and to a high standard
- Demonstrated experience in horticultural operations
- You will have a passion for developing and maintaining trusting and cooperative relationships with employees, customers and suppliers
- Demonstrated good organisational and planning skills
- Displaying a positive attitude, you are a fast learner and welcome any challenge that comes your way
- You have reasonable computer, literacy and numeracy skills
