Primary objective

The Housing Asset Maintenance Officer ensures the cost effective and timely management of all processes involved in

vacated properties, actioning maintenance requests on tenanted properties and monitoring contractor activities in line with

the department’s asset management program and contributes to the planning, development and implementation of value

added services with an emphasis on customer focussed continuous quality improvement.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Conduct asset inspections to identify repairs and maintenance, minor new works, upgrades, replacement works and to

ensure contractual obligations are being met.

2. Receive and process requests for asset alterations and additions, including fencing reimbursements, ensuring any

relevant information, permits and building certification required are supplied.

3. Assist Property Contract Officers’ with management of cyclical maintenance programs, grounds maintenance and vacate

processes.

4. Build and maintain relationships with contractors and other internal and external clients, including technical specialists.

5. Provide quality, accurate and timely input to written briefings, case plans, policies and procedures.

6. Ensure adherence to the Department’s Occupational, Health and Safety Policies and be available to work with after

hour’s emergency teams in the cases of natural disasters/critical incidents.

7. Respond positively to change with a commitment to ongoing improvement and professional development, act

professionally at all times, demonstrate cultural competence and operate within the boundaries of agreed policies and

procedures.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Demonstrated experience delivering public housing services, with the ability to value individual differences and diversity,

and deliver services within a regulatory environment.

2. Demonstrated listening, written and verbal communication skills, including ability to develop relationships and negotiate

effectively and sensitively with people who do not speak English as their first language.

3. Demonstrated ability to understand and apply policy and legislation from a Departmental perspective and provide

appropriate advice to staff and clients.

4. Proven high level organisational skills, including demonstrated ability to work on agreed priorities, complete tasks and

maintain accurate records and files.

5. Demonstrated ability to work independently, often with limited supervision and as a member of a team.

6. Proven skills in the use of information technology systems, including email, word, spread sheets and mainframe systems

such as TMS.

7. A current Northern Territory C Class Drivers Licence.

Desirable

1. An understanding of the Department’s role in the delivery of public housing.

2. Practical understanding of contract administration.
