Primary objective
Provide tenancy management and client services to tenants of the Department of Territory Families, Housing and Community
Services in accordance with the Residential Tenancies Act and Housing Act and policies, procedures and other Northern Territory
and relevant Australian Government legislation.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Manage a caseload of public housing tenancies to ensure all obligations under the Residential Tenancies Act and Housing Act
are met, including managing lease agreements, minimising debt, addressing anti-social behaviour and inspecting assets.
2. Assist clients to achieve successful tenancies through liaison with, and referral to, appropriate support services.
3. Supervise, support and provide training to other Tenancy staff.
4. Investigate report and make recommendations to the Team Leader on tenants continued eligibility for public housing.
5. Prepare accurate and timely information as required for briefing documents.
6. Contribute to the formulation and development of housing policies and procedures to ensure service delivery meets the needs
of clients, and accounts for the changing environment in which services are delivered.
7. Respond positively to change with a commitment to ongoing improvement and professional development.
8. Act professionally at all times, demonstrate cultural awareness and operate within the boundaries of agreed policies and
procedures.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience delivering public housing services or similar, with the ability to value individual differences and
diversity, and deliver services within a regulatory environment.
2. Demonstrated listening, written and verbal communication skills, including ability to develop relationships and negotiate
effectively and sensitively with people who do not speak English as their first language.
3. Demonstrated ability to understand and apply policy and legislation from a Departmental perspective and provide appropriate
advice to staff and clients, including valuing individual differences and diversity.
4. Proven high level organisational skills, including demonstrated ability to work on agreed priorities, complete tasks and maintain
accurate records and files.
5. Demonstrated ability to work independently, often with limited supervision, as a member of a team, and ability to supervise a
small team.
6. Proven skills in the use of information technology systems, including email, word, spreadsheets and mainframe systems.
7. A current “C” Class Drivers Licence.
Desirable
1. An understanding of the Department’s role in the delivery of public housing.
2. Working knowledge of the Residential Tenancies Act.
