Primary objective

The Housing Support Officer assists with the delivering of prompt, efficient and customer focussed repairs and maintenance services to

the Department’s clients in the Barkly Region. This position assesses and actions repairs and maintenance requests for remote community,

government employee housing, town camps and urban housing in line with the Remote Public Housing Management framework and the

Residential Tenancies Act .

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Provide administrative support to the business unit.

2. Assess and seek appropriate approval to process contractor invoices in a timely manner.

3. Ensure all contractors are paid within the mandated timeframe and prepare and submit remittances.

4. Monitor outstanding orders to support contractor performance and identify and escalate issues as required.

5. Input and analyse data to ensure data integrity for asset data and financial reporting.

6. Other projects as they arise to support the strategic direction and operations of the business unit.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Proven ability to prioritise workloads and use initiative, together with a demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and the ability

to work with minimal supervision.

2. Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely, including good listening, written and verbal communication skills,

including the ability to negotiate effectively.

3. Proven administrative and organisational skills, including attention to detail, with the ability to work within mandated time frames and

prioritise to complete tasks and maintain accurate records and files.

4. Ability to obtain a thorough understanding of the relevant legislation, regulations and guidelines to service delivery and asset

management of the department dwellings.

5. A general understanding of asset management fundamentals and repairs and maintenance issues to enable interpretation of

maintenance requirements.

6. Proven skills in the use of information technology systems, including word processing, spreadsheets, email applications and mainframe

systems.

Desirable

1. An understanding of the Department’s role in the delivery of public housing.

2. Working knowledge of the Residential Tenancies Act and the Remote Public Housing Management Framework.
