  • CAMHS Acute Response Team (Safeguards) are seeking applicants who are passionate about improving the mental health and social and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their communities.

  • The successful candidate, if they Identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander will be supported to actively engage in both Dhuwi cultural supervision and discipline specific clinical supervision and will be linked into both cultural supervision and discipline specific supervision and supports, alongside the clinical supports of the Safeguards Team. This position will also be supported to attend the HNEMH Aboriginal morning huddles to connect with other Aboriginal staff across the service and the monthly Aboriginal Advisory Networking Meetings and the Wiliyiin-ta CAMHS Service.

  • You will be supported culturally and professionally by a non-Aboriginal Manger, clinicians, the Aboriginal Mental Health workforce. The position is location negotiable to either be based Tamworth Mental Health Service – Dean House or Wallsend.

Identified Mental Health Clinician - Safeguards

This position is graded as an Occupational Therapist Level 3, Social Worker Level 3, Clinical Nurse Specialist Gde 2 and Clinical Psychologist/Clinical Psychologist in Training. Candidates who have completed a degree in Bachelor of Health Science Mental Health (Djirruwang Program) may be appointed as a Counsellor Level 3.

About the service:

The new ‘Safeguards Team’ will be a CAMHS, extended hours, community based, assertive and flexible short-term multidisciplinary service delivering skilled evidence-based interventions to resolve mental health crisis with young people and their families. These interventions include risk management and stabilisation, safety planning and containment, brief intervention and multiagency/service linkage.

This position will primarily be located at either in Wallsend or Tamworth (location negotiable), and on a rotating roster which will include afternoon shifts and weekends.

About the position:

The primary purpose of this position will be to plan, coordinate, and provide evidence based, trauma informed and culturally and developmentally appropriate assessment and treatment to children and adolescents (0 to 17 years) in acute mental health distress, and their families.

The role sits within the Safeguards Child and Adolescent Mental Health Response Team ('Safeguards Team') and reports to the Safeguards Team Leader with professional responsibility to the appropriate HNELHD Mental Health - Head of Discipline.

Information for Applicants:

All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course of a COVID-19 vaccine which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW. Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate.

A third COVID-19 dose is a requirement for Category A positions, as is one dose of the current Southern hemisphere influenza vaccine registered for use by the TGA. COVID-19 booster doses are highly recommended for all other health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.

Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Specific Diseases - this is a Category A position. Please read and understand NSW Health policy directive (PD2022_030). All new employees must agree to comply with the requirements outlined in the policy.
