Job description

Are you a motivated early-stage career engineer looking to gain hands-on experience in Australia’s green energy growth?  

Macquarie's Green Investment Group (GIG) is establishing a new renewable energy platform to support the development and growth of its existing 1.7GW onshore wind, solar and storage portfolio in ANZ. The business will develop, construct, own and operate a portfolio of renewable energy assets with a mission to accelerate the green transition. 

GIG is currently looking for a renewable development engineer to join the renewables platform development team working on a range of renewables projects including wind and solar farms.  

Based in Sydney or Melbourne, this role represents an opportunity to gain wide exposure across the full breadth of renewable energy project development to help kick-start a career of a motivated candidate seeking to pursue this exciting sector. You will work directly with an experienced renewable energy development team, assisting across a broad range of activities including design, planning, contracting, grid connections, financing, construction and operations.  

Initially you will join GIG, before transitioning to the platform later this year. 

Working as a part of the development team, you will be involved in the following activities: 

  • Identification and assessment of new renewable energy project opportunities and sites 

  • Assessment and optimisation of project designs including site layouts, equipment selection, energy assessment and construction approach 

  • Assistance in environmental planning and approval processes including obtaining approvals and working with the team in satisfying planning conditions for the projects 

  • Supporting and providing input into grid connection requirements and working with the grid connections manager in support of achieving an offer to connect for projects 

  • Facilitating and producing project technical documentation and technical schedules for project execution and operations & maintenance including support in procurement activities 

  • Assisting in project financing activities including working with advisers and other parties to achieve financial close of projects 

  • Supporting project reporting and development progression. 

As a part of the development team, you will be expected to work both independently and closely with experienced team members and leaders to deliver results as part of a team. Direct prior experience in above discipline areas is not mandatory, however the successful candidate will have a desire to be involved in these areas across a number of different projects. 

To succeed in this role, you will have 

  • Tertiary qualifications in engineering or associated technical fields such as planning and environment; 

  • 1-2 years work experience in energy, renewables or infrastructure projects is desirable but not mandatory; 

  • A can-do attitude and strong self-motivation; 

  • Strong project management and problem-solving skills; 

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills, including the ability to engage and work with third-party consultants, suppliers and development partners 

  • Working knowledge in relevant software packages including Excel, Word, Project and GoogleEarth 

  • Commitment to workplace health, safety and environment.
