Job description

Penrhos College seeks a dedicated and professional School Psychologist to cover the Parental Leave for a permanent employee, commencing in Term 3, 2023. This position provides specialist psychological services to Junior School students, parents and staff to facilitate the educational outcomes of our students. Service delivery is provided in a confidential, sensitive and ethical manner.

Responsibilities related to this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Understanding of mental health, developmental disorders and learning difficulties to support in identification and planning intervention for student’s PK – Yr 6
Provide short term counselling to individual student or groups of students in relation to social and emotional wellbeing
Interpretation of educational assessment reports to generate strategies and interventions suitable for classroom teachers, learning enhancement teachers and parents
Referral and liaison with outside specialists when further assessment or intervention is necessary
Compile and submit funding application for special needs students
Consultation with staff and parents regarding student mental health, learning enhancement and inclusivity
Collaboration with the Colleges Junior School and Senior School pastoral care leaders to offer consultation and support regarding the wellbeing of student cohorts.
Opportunities to participate in service improvement projects and policy development.
Developing and supporting the facilitation of an evidence-based wellbeing curriculum for PK to 6.

The successful applicant will have:
Full registration as a Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia (AHPRA).
Current AHPRA registration.
Experience working as a School Psychologist in an education setting.
Experience in providing psychological intervention for children, adolescents and their families within a systemic therapeutic paradigm
Sound understanding of Child Protection legislation and practice
Membership with professional bodies such as the Australian Psychological Society or other bodies is desirable
Flexibility and commitment to the provision of a high standard of professional care
The ability to provide guidance around child/adolescent wellbeing
Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills to enable case management and consultation with staff of the College
Ability and willingness to uphold and role model the College’s Core Shared values of Respect, Empathy, Integrity, Knowledge, Growth and Synergy
A current Working with Children check (WWC) & National Police Clearance (or ability to obtain one)
