This role plays an important role in the state's justice system, and the Child Protection Team is a specialist team that provides responsive, targeted and child-focused legal information, advice and representation and referrals to appropriate services.
What you will do
- Representing clients in Child Protection matters, including preparing matters, participation in family group meetings and court ordered conferences, instructing counsel and personally appearing as an advocate
- Provide duty lawyer services and specialist legal information and advice to parents and if appropriate children and young people
- Provide legal advice, assistance and advocacy to vulnerable parents involved or at risk of becoming involved in the Child Protection system
- Knowledge of Queensland Child Protection legislation, practices and procedures and experience in the conduct of complex Child Protection and related matters
- Proven ability to deal with clients with complex needs in stressful situations
- The ability to make considered and ethical decision, manage ambiguity, and identify when guidance from senior legal practitioners is required
- 36.25 hrs per week (full time hours)
- 12.75% employer super contributions
