This role is based within our UNSW Legal & Compliance Team within the Planning and Assurance Division at UNSW.
Why Your Role Matters:
The People & Privacy function supports the University in navigating in the areas including employment, workplace relations, discrimination, HR disputes/litigation, misconduct (including appeals), privacy, freedom of information and work health & safety law.
As a Lawyer in this team, your main focus will be assisting in the response to and resolution of employment, conduct and privacy and information access related complaints and disputes. You will bring your expertise to provide day to day advice to stakeholders across the University in these areas, as well as working closely with the Commercial & Estates Management team on non-employment related disputes.
The role is critical in supporting disputes and will get to work within a highly experienced people focused team to:
Provide sound legal advice in a solution-focused, timely and effective manner.
Advise on and managing the University to resolve complaints and legal disputes.
Manage the University’s timely response to subpoenas and compulsory processes.
Uphold the University's compliance with the open access information provision of the GIPA Act.
Contribute to the development and maintenance of a UNSW Legal & Compliance.
Partner with clients to offer sound legal dispute resolution advice aligned to business priorities, and assist in negotiating, drafting and advising as needed.
Assist with the development and delivery of legal training programs and projects.
Advise the University in relation to its accountabilities and compliance requirements.
Who you are: You will hold a tertiary qualification in law and a minimum of 4 years’ post qualification experience in disputes and a background/willingness to increase knowledge is privacy and FoI matters alongside:
Admission to the Supreme Court of NSW and a current practicing certificate
Excellent organisational and time management skills, including accuracy.
Proven ability to work collaboratively and productively, but also to take initiative.
A strong customer service focus, a flexible and adaptable attitude.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
