In this role you will be:
As a DevOps Test Engineer and in collaboration with your peers, you will ensure the following accountabilities
are met:
- Champion Quality, Test Automation, AWS, DevOps, and Agile practices in working with squads and
delivering solutions, coaching squads on the adoption of these practices.
- Develop high-quality, reusable test automation frameworks that enable squads to move to a true
continuous delivery model.
- Develop test automation metrics to show how squads are tracking over time.
- Collaborate with squads to drive changes in squad behaviour - this is a major measure of success.
- Work in concert with squads to ensure their planned deliverables have an appropriate level of testing
included which could cover unit, integration, functional, performance, security, or end-to-end testing.
- Deliver showcases and technical deep dives to squads or the broader Solution Delivery group and lead a
Testing Community of Practice.
- Keep up to date with industry testing tools and practices and perform evaluations and proof of concepts
to determine suitability for adoption.
- Put in place Continuous Integration and Build practices and enable the use of ephemeral environments to
meet the organisation's quality standards.
- Be accountable for day-to-day operation of software features, components, services, or modules owned
by you and your team - we believe in “you build it, you run it”.
- Support your team and the wider group to remove technical impediments and pay down technical debt
To be successful you will need:
As DevOps Test Engineer you will demonstrate the following qualities:
Technical Skills
- Excellent Full Stack Engineering skills, covering Typescript/JavaScript, C#, SQL, NoSQL, RDBMS,
JavaScript UI Frameworks, Python, etc
- Experience with REST API contract testing
- Experience creating reusable test frameworks and implementing Continuous Delivery
- Experience working with synthetic data sets for the purpose of testing
- Experience working in an AWS Cloud environment advantageous
- A firm grasp on the latest technology trends.
- Demonstrated experience mentoring, training, and consulting with other teams to change their operating
practices and to influence broad communities of technical experts, regardless of reporting lines.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Experience with DevOps and modern engineering practices.
- Demonstrated experience designing, developing, and maintaining reusable application components for
engineers to use delivering solutions.
- Experience delivering showcases and technical deep dives to squads.
- Agile maturity including knowledge of Scrum and XP practices as well as an ability to coach others in their
use.
- Confident collaboration style that encourages pairing and swarming to achieve sprint goals and deliver as
a team.
- Experience with a variety of architectural patterns, integration technologies and modern microservice /
microlith design.
- The ability to balance the long term (“big picture”) and short-term implications of individual decisions.
- Strong Stakeholder management skills.
- Full Systems lifecycle delivery experience in complex environments (7+ years).
- Innovative and questioning nature to explore ideas and prototype solutions.
