Title: Lead Electrical Engineer – Green Fleet Development
Work location: Perth – Redcliffe WA
Roster: Monday – Friday
In support of Fortescue’s strong focus on green energy and our carbon neutrality targets, one of our key initiatives will be in our Green Fleet projects whereby we will develop and test a range of technologies to power our mining fleet
Key accountabilities will include:
Design and deliver electrical systems for Rail Green Fleet Development projects in a safe, timely and sustainable manner
Develop plant’s power system design and distribution equipment, power system analyses (load flow, short circuit, protection coordination studies, harmonics, arc flash, transient analysis, etc)
Provide assurance and support to the design, tests, and installation of electrical equipment such as motors, power electronic converters, power transformers, EHV to LV substations and switchyards, overhead transmission lines, switchgears, MCC, distribution boards, UPS, DC systems, emergency power generation systems, etc
Provide technical guidance and governance on all electrical engineering systems related to works being carried out, ensuring compliance to relevant standards
Interpret engineering drawings, documents, specifications, and scopes
Ensure compliance to the project management process (NPCS) by project owners
Support major electrical equipment acquisition process, and participate in FAT and SAT.
Liaise with other Lead Engineers on respective discipline engineering requirements and interface issues.
Review and approve key business deliverables including those with significant multi-discipline content.
Participate in contract tender evaluations.
Assure technical oversight of Engineering Contractor activities.
Mentor electrical engineering team to contribute successful delivery of the project
Ensure effective application of electrical engineering meets the basis of design requirements of the project.
Comply with guidelines and regulations including permits, safety, etc., and deliver technical files and other technical documentation as required.
Communicate and interface effectively with other disciplines, FFI electrical engineering function, grid authority, engineering specialist providers and vendors.
Participate in specific detail design reviews and evaluations including technical safety reviews of design, HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, QRA, risk analysis.
Contribute to building a frugal cost-conscious attitude throughout the project team.
Qualifications and skills required:
Bachelor’s degree of Electrical Engineering (Master’s degree preferred).
Competent engineer for design and selection of electrical equipment for hazardous areas (EEHA).
15+ years’ experience working in a project setting from feasibility studies through to start-up.
Experience in overseeing EPC design activities and delivering large projects.
Experience in engineering, design and selection of electrical equipment, with emphasis on plant critical electrical components, and hazardous area classification methods and protection techniques. Some experience with owner/operator is preferred.
Demonstrated experience in a similar role, preferably in a large and complex project (wind, solar, hydrogen, ports, mining, oil and gas).
General knowledge of data analysis and modelling of plant’s electrical network.
General knowledge of interpretation and review process of system impact studies, reactive power compensation analysis, and integration studies (e.g. large loads integration to the grid).
General understanding of existing and emerging technologies for energy storage systems, fuel cells, etc. preferred.
Demonstrated computer literacy in engineering software (e.g. PowerFactory, PSSE and PSCAD or similar).
Strong leadership skills and experience in leading direct and indirect reports.
Knowledge of Australian and international codes, standards and industry specifications.
