Titles Queensland manages the land and water titles registries for Queensland and are the trusted experts in maintaining the reliability and integrity of one of our state’s most significant registers of information, protecting people’s most valuable assets.
With over 750,000 lodgements and 2.7 million searches of land and water titles registry dealings each year, our services are fundamental to the investment in Queensland and safeguarding records for property owners and interest holders across our past, present and future.
In June 2021, the Queensland Government announced the titles registry services would transfer to the Queensland Future Fund, enabled by the Queensland Future Fund (Titles Registry) Act 2021. The corporate entity of Titles Queensland was established at this time and continues to offer the same products and services to our many customers and stakeholders maintaining a firm commitment to service excellence and accuracy.

About the opportunity
We are currently recruiting for an early career Legal Counsel, located in our Brisbane office.
Working in our in-house legal team, you will work closely with Senior Legal Counsel and Principal Legal Counsel and report to the General Counsel and undertake a wide range of activities, such as assisting in resolving complex titling matters, providing advice on commercial/corporate matters, supporting strategic initiatives for ongoing improvement and digitisation of processes, and responding to other issues impacting on Titles Queensland activities.

Key day-to day Responsibilities
- Undertaking research and contributing to maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the titles register by providing input to reviews and recommendations in relation to the application of legislation and other laws to titling matters, as well as general legal and industry matters of relevance to Titles Queensland’s operations and broader business needs.
- Under supervision, analysing issues and providing advice about specific titling dealings having regard to relevant law and Titles Queensland policies and procedures.
- Under supervision, analysing issues and providing advice in relation to the commercial and corporate needs of Titles Queensland having regard to the relevant law and Titles Queensland policies and procedures.
- Preparing summaries, correspondence, and reports in relation to a variety of titling, commercial and corporate related matters, including to assist the Senior Legal Counsel, Principal Legal Counsel and General Counsel in relation to litigation and other legal processes.
- Under supervision, providing support and assistance to the Chief Executive Officer and Management in carrying out titles registry functions delegated to Titles Queensland as provided for by the Queensland Future Fund (Titles Registry) Act 2021 and other delegations.
Skills/Experience
- A degree qualification in Law and admission as a lawyer in Queensland or ability to be admitted.
- Knowledge of Queensland property law, titling concepts and relevant Titles Queensland processes, and an ability and willingness to maintain currency of that knowledge.
- Knowledge of court processes and relevant laws, and an ability and willingness to maintain currency of that knowledge (desirable).
- Knowledge of Queensland conveyancing practices (desirable)
- Understanding of Torrens land titling principles and the legislative framework under which this system operates in Queensland.
- Understanding of the fundamental principles and legislation governing other areas of law relevant to complex titling dealings, including powers of attorney, corporations, trusts and insolvency (desirable).
- High level skills in research and analysis
- An ability to prioritise projects and tasks efficiently, be flexible and adaptable to changing expectations and requirements.
- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to work well as a key member of a team delivering results
- Understanding of the role of Titles Queensland and the impact of that role.
