About the Role

Uniting WA provides high quality, therapeutic, person centred support for young people living in Out of Home Care, in a residential setting. 

We are looking for dynamic and experienced people to be part of a team that work together to improve the lives of vulnerable children who have experienced complex trauma – living with up to 4-young people in a Family Group Home. 

You will be responsible for the day-to-day care and supervision of the children and provide a positive, supportive, safe, and healing environment for children – delivering high quality, therapeutic and child focussed services. 

  • There are various positions available for Live in youth workers/carers (working up to 7 days in a fortnight) and Live in Respite carer positions
  • We are also offering both casual and part-time for this role.
  • Please apply if you can commit to working sleepover shifts ongoingly on a roster pattern.

About You

  • Someone who can provide therapeutic trauma informed care for a young person
  • Attend to the daily care and needs of young people, recording these accurately in case notes and amplifying the child’s voice in decision making
  • Flexible and adaptable, when working alone or in a team
  • Able to manage challenging, complex, and confronting trauma-based behaviours with confidence and composure
  • Grounded, resilient, and committed.
  • Able to work 24-hour (sleepover) shifts through the week in a rostered model of care.

We are seeking highly motivated people who have:

  • A Certificate IV or higher in Children Studies/ Youth Work or related
  • Experience working with young people in a residential setting.
  • Have the resilience and flexibility to work multiple sleepovers shifts in a fortnight
  • Knowledge and understanding of Therapeutic Parenting & Trauma Informed Care particularly in the Out of Home Care space for Youth.
  • Ability to demonstrate empathy, guidance, respect and patience at all times
  • A genuine interest and enthusiasm for working with young people in a holistic manner that will best support their needs and strengthen their well-being.
  • You must be able to obtain a current National Police Clearance and Provide a First Aid certificate. It is also essential to have a current Working With Children Check, and WA ‘C class’ driver’s licence.
  • A requirement of the role is to satisfy The Department of Communities Record Check Consent Application (RCCA) to support undertaking a Police History Check for workers who have been identified for a role within Non-Government agencies that work with children in the care of the CEO.
