Job description

The Magistrates Clerks Branch is currently seeking a motivated and capable administrative person to join as judicial support within the Magistrates Court based at Pt Augusta. The Magistrates Clerk is an important element of the court proceedings and is responsible for the daily running of administrative duties both in and out of court.  The role requires high level administrative support to Magistracy including accurate recording of court outcomes and organising the in-court proceedings to ensure a smooth running of the court, including noting delays and absences, and calling on the matters to be heard.  As a highly organised team member, you will be required to coordinate and check rosters, case lists and prioritise and manage court files. Your attention to detail and highly developed organisational and time management skills will flourish in this fast-paced environment. 

Magistrates Clerks have the opportunity to work in all jurisdictions of the Magistrates or Youth Court and may have the opportunity to travel to various CBD, suburban and country court locations. 

As the role requires a specific skill set, Magistrates Clerks are supported with an initial training period of 3 months (full-time) held in Adelaide (travel home on weekends) and have the ability to progress to higher responsibility and remuneration levels thereafter.

The Courts Administration Authority of South Australia’s primary purpose is to provide participating courts and court users with services and facilities that support the proper administration of justice.

We have a workforce of over 700 employees working under the Courts Administration Act 1993 in an independent South Australian Public Sector department. Most of these employees work in an administrative capacity to support the courts to operate effectively.

Successful applicant will have:

  • An adaptable and flexible nature and a desire for a not so ordinary job.
  • Experience in providing high level administrative support services.

  • An ability to use initiative to manage competing priorities and accurately complete work within set timeframes.
  • A minimum typing speed of 50 wpm with 98% accuracy.

Special Conditions:
The following special conditions apply to this position:

  • Appointment is under the Courts Administration Act, 1993.  Terms and Conditions of employment are governed by the Public Sector Act, 2009.
  • The role is identified as a Prescribed Position and the successful applicant is required to obtain a Working with Children Check prior to employment with the CAA, which must be renewed every five years before expiry.  A current DHS child-related employment screening will be recognised as a WWCC until it expires. WWCC's can be obtained through the Department of Human Services (DHS) Screening Unit: https://screening.sa.gov.au 
  • Appointment is dependent upon a National Police Certificate that the CAA finds satisfactory.
  • As a justice agency, the CAA may receive details of spent convictions as part of any Criminal History Screening and use this information in the selection process.
  • The CAA will require disclosure of COVID-19 vaccination status on appointment. Mandatory vaccination is required unless a person holds a valid medical exemption or adheres to the requirements of the CAA COVID-19 Vaccination Policy.

Remuneration:
ASO3 – ASO4 ($65,606 to $77,901 per annum)
