Maintenance and Fabrication Technician with experience in maintenance, repair, and Fabrication within an industrial or agricultural setting. We have a great role for you! 

The Opportunity Shepherd Grain is a young, vibrant grain and seed trading business targeting planting seed for the wider farming community and exporting sorghum, pulses and other grains. We are also working with two universities on advanced genetic development including gene editing techniques to bring enhanced varieties to market sooner. Located in Moree, we are ideally placed on the inland rail corridor to service markets throughout Eastern Australia and internationally. 

The Maintenance and Fabrication Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation, safety, and efficiency of the grain handling facilities and equipment. This position involves performing maintenance, repairs, and Fabrication tasks on various grain handling machinery, systems, and infrastructure. 

Key Responsibilities: 

1. Equipment Maintenance and Repair: Design and implement and maintain a preventative maintenance system. Conduct regular inspections, diagnostics, and preventive maintenance on grain handling equipment such as grain cleaning equipment, seed picklers, conveyors, elevators, forklifts and augers. Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues to identify root causes and implement effective solutions. Repair or replace faulty components, parts, and systems to minimize downtime and maximize operational efficiency. 

2. Fabrication and Welding: Fabricate and weld components using various tools and techniques to create custom parts, fixtures, and modifications for grain handling systems. Fabricate grain equipment that is easy to keep clean and maintain. Ensure all fabrication work meets safety, quality, and regulatory standards. Plant cleanliness, machinery hygiene and reliability are of the utmost importance 

3. Emergency Response: Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns, malfunctions, or emergencies to minimize disruptions to grain handling operations. Collaborate with the management and processing teams to quickly address issues and implement temporary or permanent solutions. 

4. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and modifications performed on equipment. Generate reports on equipment status, maintenance tasks completed, and any potential areas of concern. Design implement and maintain an asset register that integrates fully with the maintenance schedule. Record and upload weekly progress 

5. Safety and Compliance: Adhere to company safety protocols and procedures while performing Maintenance and Fabrication tasks. Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations and standards, actively participating in safety training and initiatives. 

6. Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance equipment performance, reliability, and efficiency through process improvements and upgrades. Collaborate with colleagues and supervisors to share insights and contribute to the development of maintenance strategies. 

7. Inventory Management: Maintain an organized inventory of spare parts, tools, and supplies necessary for Maintenance and Fabrication tasks. Coordinate with procurement to ensure timely availability of required materials. Keep all tools and equipment and work areas in an organised and in a respectable manner. Qualifications and Skills: Proven experience in maintenance, repair, and Fabrication within an industrial or agricultural setting. Proficiency in welding techniques such as Oxy cutting, MIG and stick welding.

8. Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems. An ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics would be a positive but not essential. 

9. Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and addressing issues. Basic computer skills for documentation and communication purposes. Strong commitment to workplace safety and adherence to safety regulations. 

10. Effective communication and teamwork skills. 

Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy objects, work in confined spaces, and perform physically demanding tasks. Comfortable working in various weather conditions and environments (indoor and outdoor). Capable of standing, bending, stooping, and kneeling for extended periods.
