The R&DTI program sits within AusIndustry, within the Department of Industry, Science and Resources. AusIndustry delivers a range of programs to help Australian businesses grow, innovate and thrive. The Division interacts with industry, research organisations and universities, as well as businesses through a variety of programs.

The program is jointly managed by the Department and the Australian Taxation Office and has staff in various state and territory office locations.

About the vacancy

The Administrative Review Team manages all aspects of administrative review for the program, including conducting internal reviews and managing litigation in the AAT and superior courts, and works to improve the quality of decision making across the program. The team also manages complex compliance cases and is responsible for the program’s Large Business Review assurance program.

Candidates with well-developed people management, stakeholder engagement and leadership skills will be highly regarded, as well as experience in managing legal proceedings and/or knowledge of the research and development or innovation programs. Experience in delivering a government program governed by legislation is preferred, but not essential.

  • Experience in developing staff and building teams to deliver high quality outputs
  • The ability to work calmly and effectively in a dynamic environment while managing competing priorities

The key roles and responsibilities of the role are to:

  • Lead, mentor and manage a large nationally distributed team of R&DTI program specialists responsible for assessing R&DTI claims from Australian businesses;
  • Make findings about the eligibility of activities claimed under the R&DTI by Australian businesses;
  • Strategically manage compliance litigation in the AAT and superior courts;
