Job Description

Assist the Senior Manager and the Business Group to build strong business cases that create enduring profitability for Australian grain growers. Ensure effective, efficient and compliant contract management that aligns with GRDC's vision, values and strategic goals by effectively managing, people, budget, and technological resources. Managers are responsible for delivering GRDC's R&D strategies and primary activities at each Phase of Contract Investment as follows; -
  • Supporting the Senior Manager Regional Research, Regional Panels, to identify regional strategic R&D requirements in Agronomy, Farming Systems, Soils and Nutrition.
  • Supporting the particular R&D field to develop business cases that address regional and local grower issues.
  • Ensure that regional strategic plans accurately capture the primary issues in each of the RD&E fields and provide detail required to build appropriate technical strategies.
  • Ability to collect and synthesise primary productivity impediments within each RD&E field.
  • Responsible to ensure IP registers are established, required sub-contractor arrangements finalised and potential alterations or special conditions to the Agreement are developed only where necessary to deliver project outcomes and outputs and with the approval of the GRDC legal group.
  • Responsible for identifying communication opportunities and collaborating with the Grower Communications Group to promote GRDC Research outcomes.
  • Ensure technical responses are consistent with SMART principles and have clearly articulated grower-focussed deliverables.
  • Anticipate, invest, create and foster the development of workforce capacity and industry leadership in your particular RD&E field.
  • Foster and maintain awareness of GRDC funded Scholarship/grant recipients for future project roles.
  • Contribute to the successful financial performance against each contract in the particular R&D field by taking full responsibility of the budget.
  • Responsible for the timely and accurate approval of milestone and final payments are provided to the finance team.
  • Manage the negotiation of overall pricing of contracts, and that all projects are completed within set budget guidelines.
  • Conduct quality, risk and opportunity assessments for incorporation into Contract Agreements and document as required.
The Successful Applicant
  • Demonstrated minimum 5 years sound knowledge of related industry experience in a particular R&D field.
  • Demonstrated experience in project negotiation, facilitation and management in a relevant industry (5+ years' desirable);
  • Proven experience in negotiating and facilitating outcomes that deliver benefits to growers.
  • Proven experience coaching, mentoring and developing teams.
  • Proven understanding of commercial principles including finance, brand management, IP management, licensing and deal development.
  • Highly developed presentation, interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to influence, motivate and develop others.
  • Strong analytical skills and the capacity to leverage off external expertise and think strategically, including the ability to provide sound project and issue advice.
Mandatory Requirements
  • Degree in Business, Agricultural Science, or equivalent.
  • Studying toward a PhD in relevant discipline is highly desirable.
  • Prepared to travel as and when required.
  • Must have a valid Australian Drivers Licence.
