Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic the NSW Ministry of Health responded to the rapidly increasing need for frequent, clear, and accessible public health information through delivery of multiple public communications campaigns.
The Ministry’s communications team works closely with the smaller communications teams in local health districts and health networks throughout NSW to inform communities about how to protect their health during the pandemic, promote COVID-safe behaviour awareness and encourage vaccination take-up.
We have now moved into the next phase of the pandemic response and the Ministry’s communications team has been restructured to support the sustained demand for information – across a broad range of public health issues – and the ongoing transformation in public health communication delivery.
We are seeking high performing Communication Managers and Communication Officers to work closely with our health teams to deliver public communications campaigns, scale up communications to multicultural and Aboriginal communities, and support stakeholder and staff engagement.
Corporate Communications Manager (Grade 11/12)
Responsible for driving high levels of staff and stakeholder awareness and engagement campaigns, this role calls for an experienced communications manager who has strong writing, event and people management skills, and can juggle multiple projects with conflicting and tight deadlines.
We are looking for an experienced communication professional with a proven record of accomplishment in strategic communication planning, coordination and delivery, and developing employee targeted campaigns together with experience in project management and high-profile event delivery. You’ll have tertiary qualifications in communications, public relations or journalism and/or relevant experience as well an experience of guiding and leading a small team.

Detail your experience planning and delivering a complex communications campaign targeting staff in a large matrix organisation. What was the approach and result, and how did it support business objectives?
Explain a situation where you had to think strategically and lead your team to manage a time-sensitive communications issue. How did you coordinate with key stakeholders to deliver a positive outcome?

Salary Range: $134,411 - $155,445 plus Superannuation and Annual Leave Loading
Communications Officer (Grade 7/8)
This role is essential in keeping staff across the health system engaged and informed about programs, initiatives and events. You will write and schedule high-quality internal communications content and develop resources and content for a diverse range of stakeholders and agencies, while managing relationships. This role coordinates the editorial delivery of the Annual Report, working across project management, stakeholder liaison and writing/editing. You’ll be experienced in managing multiple projects and able to work to fast deadlines when needed.
We are looking for communications professionals with relevant tertiary qualifications in Communications or similar and demonstrated equivalent experience who are experienced in copywriting, managing communications projects and events and who can action tasks in a responsive and deadline driven environment.
Targeted Questions for Grade 7/8
Describe your experience in developing engaging content for staff, including how you translate complex information that reaches the target audience and how you measure effectiveness.
This role coordinates the NSW Health Annual Report. Provide an example of a large or long-term communication project you have managed, including how you managed the project delivery and schedule, version control and working with a wide range of stakeholders.
