About the teams

Oil and Gas Division is an integral part of the ongoing energy transition - in Australia, Asia and globally. The Division is made up of the Gas Branch, Northern Endeavour Branch, Offshore Resources Branch and the National Offshore Petroleum Titles Administrator. The teams work on a wide variety of onshore and offshore oil and gas matters including policy and regulatory functions, interpreting legislation, offshore petroleum titles management, and program delivery.

The opportunity

We have multiple vacancies at EL2 levels for ongoing engagement.

The roles will vary depending on section responsibilities and opportunities but we are looking for team leaders with policy, program and regulatory experience.

Our ideal candidate

Our ideal candidate is someone who:
  • Is an excellent leader and manager who is able to inspire and organise a team, is flexible and collaborative and able to assist a team to meet its deliverables and deadlines
  • Demonstrates capabilities to manage complex real world issues, including providing evidence-based advice through information and data analysis from a range of sources to provide clear and influential advice
  • Demonstrates capabilities to develop, interpret and work with legislative and regulatory frameworks
  • Has an excellent understanding of government processes, including experience with briefings, cabinet submissions, budgetary processes, new policy proposals
  • Demonstrates effective stakeholder engagement capabilities including fostering productive working relationships with a range of audiences, including working with industry and States and Territories
  • Has experience and/or knowledge of Australia's offshore resources regulatory regime and an understanding of titles management.
What you will do

You will:
  • Lead, drive and manage programs of work and provide support and guidance for their team
  • Undertake work with a high level of complexity
  • Provide strategic support and thinking to the branch and team.
Depending on the role, you may:
  • Develop, interpret and administer legislation
  • Deliver high value programs with commercial and operational risks
  • Interpret, develop and provide advice on policy, legislation and regulations
  • Build the capability of more junior team members.
Eligibility

To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, candidates must be Australian Citizens.

Positions require a Baseline security clearance and successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.

Notes

A merit pool may be established and used to fill future vacancies within 18 months from the date the vacancy was first advertised in the Gazette.
