About the role
As our new Manager Group Risk & Assurance, you will provide the leadership, oversight, tools, systems and processes necessary to enable business owners and first line colleagues to constructively manage the risks in their businesses. You will lead a small group of specialists in the delivery of integrated assurance and quality risk management services to the organization.
Key areas of responsibility:
- leadership of RACQ’s risk management framework and well-designed policies, processes and tools
- second line advisory services to our corporate center and non-APRA regulated businesses
- leadership of our organization’s risk management information system capability and maturity
- delivery of the organization’s agreed group risk assurance program
- constructive working relationships with business owners, the risk and compliance community, and our Group strategy function
Additionally, this leadership role will also support the enablement and execution of the divisional strategy and divisional strategic objectives to deliver collaboration in executing the strategy, reporting on execution, and assist with development and coordination of Board, Committee and Management Reporting.
Key responsibilities include:
- Influence, engage with, advocate to, coach, and support 1st line-of-defense management in applying effective risk practice and generating appropriate risk behaviors by establishing effective working relationships with designated risk officers and managers at all levels.
- Advise senior executives and designated risk officers on opportunities, issues and insights regarding risk behaviors, decision-making and practices.
- Work collaboratively with first- and third-line leadership to deliver RACQ’s integrated assurance plan and directly lead the agreed second line assurance of group risks across the organization.
- Support the conduct of financial performance and capital adequacy modelling, stress testing and analysis.
- Lead the development and maintenance of RACQ’s risk management system capability and develop evidence-based insights for business decision making and risk management.
- Lead the development of the organization’s resiliency programs including business continuity management and other risk mitigation strategies key to organizational resiliency
- Provide assurance to the boards, committees and senior executives that the interests of the membership are being appropriately considered in risk decision making, reporting and monitoring across the Group.
About You
- 7-10 + years agile commercial experience supporting Risk maturity uplift.
- Expertise in the development of risk management framework in collaboration with Board and management
- Strong stakeholder collaboration skills and appreciation of user-based design principles
- Critical thinking and sophisticated written and oral literacy
- Strong working knowledge of insurance and banking operations and regulatory environments
- Demonstrated leadership capability
- Ability to adapt strategy to changing external and internal drivers and influence stakeholders.
- Ability to act unsupervised to achieve communicated objectives.
- Courage to speak-up regardless of position when things are wrong.
Desirable skills & experience;
- Strong working experience in insurance, banking or adjacent financial services sector
- Experience working in risk, audit or governance roles, preferably within banking / insurance sector
- Data analysis and insights capability and aptitude
- Financial and capital analysis, planning and stress testing capability
- Continuous improvement coaching, facilitation and advocacy
- Formal project management capabilities
- Strategy management or consulting experience
