OUR CLIENT
Our client is a recognised global corporate entity with a strong presence in the resources and industrial sector and has more than 3000 employees in the Asia Pacific region alone.
The General Counsel leads by example by providing a dynamic yet cohesive culture, challenging work, and commercially responsible flexible work practices, which means they have low staff turnover and rarely need to recruit other than due to growth roles such as this.
THE ROLE
This is not a greenfields role expecting you to establish risk and compliance systems and procedures as it is a well-established capability within the business and is currently managed by the legal team.
However, due to organic growth as well as some growth through acquisition, there is the need for a dedicated resource in this space and for this person to continue the 'pursuit of excellence' and become a welcomed addition to this sizeable team. The Manager Legal Risk & Compliance will be responsible for:
Risk:
implementation of the Group’s Enterprise Risk Management Framework, policies and procedures in identifying and managing risks across the business operations.
formulation and implementation of policies and programs to address the Group’s key compliance risk areas.
conduct risk and compliance audits with Risk Owners.
deliver training and awareness programs and development of training modules.
manage and maintain risk register for various departments.
deliver quarterly risk report to MDs and CFOs and Group Risk and Compliance.
Compliance:
accept ownership of local compliance control frameworks on major legal and regulatory requirements (eg. Corporations Act, competition and consumer law, foreign investment laws, Privacy law, cyber security and data governance laws, Anti-trust law, and Anti-money laundering).
maintain business licencing registers.
advise, support and train the business in relation to the compliance program.
conduct workshops and sessions on compliance obligations to appropriate audiences.
undertake impact assessments of emerging regulatory change and developments and confirm any changes to compliance obligations.
admin and ownership of legal and regulatory compliance software platform including systems training and ongoing technical support.
undertaking quarterly audit reviews and reporting to Group Risk & Compliance.
assist the General Counsel in coordinating compliance and legal risk management for director/officer due diligence checklists, training and activities.
investigations and reporting in local registers and to Group on safety breaches, prosecutions, Modern Slavery, Fraud, Bribery and Corruption or Whistleblowing issues.
Governance
update and educate on new Group policies including GPA / GPPA roll outs and update of levels of authority in different regions.
assist the company secretary with any governance related matters re corporations regulation and reporting.
work with Corporate Finance team on post-acquisition governance requirements.

WHAT'S REQUIRED
We are currently seeking a talented Legal Risk & Compliance Manager of 8+ years' experience.
You may be a highly experienced Risk & Compliance Officer, or alternatively a qualified Lawyer of 8+ years PAE, with specialist experience in legal risk and compliance in the resources sector (mining, water, energy), industrial (construction, heavy machinery), or possibly in a very hands-on risk audit and compliance consulting services role.
Regardless of sector, you must have a demonstrable 'specialist' skillset in this space and a desire to continue your medium term career in this field.
Applications are open to Australian Residents or those currently with the right to work in Australia as sponsorship is not able to be provided. In addition, whilst there is some workplace flexibility, regrettably the role will not suit someone looking to work fully remote or remotely from interstate.
