Primary objective
Operating within an integrated service model, lead the provision of individualised, best practice development programs relating to the
physical development aspects of the performance pathway for coaches, scholarship athletes and other identified athletes across the
Northern Territory.
Context statement
The Northern Territory Sports Academy (NTSA) works in close consultation with Sport Australia, the National Institute Network (NIN),
National Sporting Organisations (NSOs), NT Peak Sporting Bodies (PSBs) and local sporting groups (e.g. regional associations and clubs) to
develop, implement and evaluate best practice pathway and workforce development strategies and programs for all sport participants
(athletes, coaches, officials and other support personnel), leading to better sporting outcomes at the community level and advancement
of participants to national and international competition levels.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Work proactively and collaboratively with the NTSA Senior Manager and relevant sport organisations more broadly to accomplish
the delivery of high standard programs and services aimed at improving the knowledge and competencies of coaches and enhancing
their capacity to design and deliver more effective holistic long-term physical development programs for athletes.
2. Collaborate with other external stakeholders, including the Departments of Education and Health, and the Charles Darwin University,
and apply professional expertise and demonstrated knowledge of physical performance / strength and conditioning best practice
methodologies, to directly design and deliver leading edge learning and development activities and experiences for coaches and
athletes.
3. Provide professional oversight, leadership and management of sport pathway personnel to ensure the delivery of effective, holistic,
long term athlete and coach development programs.
4. Manage the NTSA gymnasium, inclusive of attaining and maintaining relevant Australian Strength and Conditioning Coaches
Association (ASCA), NIN and NSO sports science and sports medicine practitioner compliance standards and making sure necessary
policies and procedures are maintained.
5. Partner with Workforce Development, Strategic Partnerships and Community Sport Officers to support learning and development
activities across the NT.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated practical knowledge of and experience in delivering generic and sport-based physical literacy programs with junior
athletes and their coaches.
2. Demonstrated practical knowledge of and experience in physical training program development, delivery and assessment across a
range of sports including coaching athletes to elite junior and senior competition levels.
3. Proven experience successfully managing programs, projects and staff to deliver systemic change and improved outcomes.
4. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders and key partners.
5. Proven ability to work flexibly to meet regularly varying work patterns and priorities and attend to changing needs of stakeholders
across the sport sector and / or community.
6. Bachelor Degree in sport science / sports medicine, coach education or equivalent.
7. Current Level 2 or higher ASCA, or equivalent, accreditation and current NSO Level 2 coaching qualifications.
