Strathfield Council is a medium sized Council located in Sydney’s Inner West. The Council area comprises approximately 14 square kilometres and has an estimated population of 46,000 residents with a projected population of over 80,000 by 2036. Known for its major transport connections and well-kept greenspaces, Strathfield is also considered to be the educational centre of the Inner West.

The Role
The position – Manager People and Culture – reporting to the Director Corporate and Community, is responsible for the overall delivery of all services relating to People, Learning, Work Health and Safety across Council.
Key elements of this position will include the design and subsequent implementation of people focused strategies promoting transformational change across the Council organisation.
Functionally the key responsibilities include, providing inspirational leadership across the ‘People and Culture’ function, driving a culture of accountability and continuous performance improvement whilst supporting teams across Council.
About You
As a highly regarded people leader and HR professional, you will have a track history of leading teams through periods of change and growth, in conjunction with building cultures that you are proud of. As would be expected of such a position, advanced verbal and written communication skills are essential, along with the ability to develop effective partnerships across both the organisation and external stakeholder groups.
Familiarity of relevant legislation within the Local Government context is sought, as is demonstrated knowledge of key areas such as recruitment and selection, training and development, industrial relations, WHS and workforce planning. Knowledge and understanding of the changing social, political, and economic issues facing the local government sector would be an advantage. It is further expected that the successful applicant will hold relevant tertiary qualifications in Human Resources or a relevant field.
Lastly, the position will suit an individual who is passionate about people and in delivering best-in-class services for the community.
