The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP), the principal organisation representing the medical specialty of psychiatry in Australia and New Zealand, is seeking an experienced Policy Manager to join our Practice, Policy and Research team.
The primary focus of this shared role is to manage the development of policy and engagement with governments and other key stakeholders relevant to psychiatry and mental health – across the RANZCP Branches, including liaison with the NSW Branch.
Working with Branch Committees and staff, this role will coordinate the identification and prioritisation of key policy and advocacy for action across Australian jurisdictions, in line with the RANZCP Strategic Plan.
This role has a specific focus to:
- Work with Branch policy staff to prioritise and coordinate policy and advocacy across jurisdictions, in consultation with Branch Committees, jurisdictional Faculties and Sections, the Senior Manager, Bi-national Offices and Committees and Branch Managers/Coordinators.
- Align with, where appropriate, bi-national priorities, in collaboration with the Manager, Bi-national Policy and the Manager, Practice and Standards.
- Coordinate the proactive identification and analysis of government developments and data relevant to the College, especially policy and services relating to psychiatry and mental health.
- Coordinate the preparation of Branch submissions, including pre-budget and pre-election submissions, for the weekly Executive Management meeting.
- Ensure the development and implementation of evaluation approaches for policy and advocacy work.
- Develop effective and efficient systems for sharing of information, including coordinating regular meetings of Branch policy staff via face to face meetings, teleconference and videoconference.
The successful candidate will have:
- Demonstrated experience in undertaking policy development and advocacy with specific expertise in the Australian health care system, in particular, the mental health sector and government legislation, structures and processes.
- Experience in a management role, including managing and developing staff in various geographical locations.
- Demonstrated ability to research issues, quickly synthesise information coordinate consultation processes, analyse and formulate recommendations, and review outcomes.
- Proven experience in operationalising strategic plans, priority setting, exercising judgment, critical thinking using data and problem solving skills.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in an appropriate Policy, Health Legal, Social Science, Business or Research discipline.
