Duties
  • Manage and co-ordinate the Department’s spatial systems and services, including governance arrangements and the monitoring of performance.
  • Undertake research, analysis and provide advice on strategic and operational spatial issues associated with departmental and branch level projects with spatial components.
  • Ensure appropriate goal setting, budget management, alignment of staffing structures, selection of spatial technologies and work allocation.
  • Provide high level leadership, direction, and support within the Spatial Services Group to ensure that all development and support is carried out in keeping with contemporary project management practices and according to best practice methodologies with particular emphasis on the production of appropriate documentation and thorough testing prior to systems introduction.
  • Promote a spatial “Community of Practice” to enable staff working with spatial data to develop a wider view and appreciation of the spatial work undertaken across the Department. This will include the creation of skills inventories of data base and spatial software use to inform workforce planning.
  • Develop policies and guidelines relating to all aspects of the spatial data lifecycle management task as well as developing and implementing metadata and other standards to ensure data meets business needs.
  • Advocate across the Department for a greater focus to be placed on developing better business and customer outcomes using spatial enhanced solutions, and market the Department’s spatial capabilities to potential external clients.
  • Manage specific projects assigned by the Chief Information Officer, including the research, design and preparation of business cases, the preparation and execution of business plans and the management of project resources to meet stakeholder interests.
Desirable Requirements
  • Relevant tertiary or industry recognised qualifications and affiliations or equivalent experience.
