Marine Rescue Queensland (MRQ) is a marine emergency service dedicated to protecting the safety of the Queensland boating community. Marine Rescue Queensland, established in 2024 is Queensland’s first single integrated state-wide service, serving the state’s coastline and waterways. In this role you will be part of the newly established Marine Rescue Queensland Unit and support work associated with the blue water rescue capability, dedicated to protecting Queenslanders in our oceans and waterways.

This position will provide management and leadership to the Training function in the MRQ. You will manage and oversee the development, coordination, and evaluation of training and supporting functions across the state, assisting with strategies, planning and implementation to align with training, operational and program priorities. You will work collaboratively across MRQ, with external parties (such as ASQA, AMSA, and QPS RTO), and with volunteers to deliver standardised training into operational areas. You will perform training needs analysis and provide strategic
advice across MRQ to facilitate the successful delivery of training and support the operational capability of a new integrated marine rescue service.
Your key accountabilities
The core capability requirements for this role are:
• Lead and manage the development, implementation and improvement of incident management, search and rescue and disaster management training, exercising, planning, systems, and processes, focusing on operational readiness and building local capability and capacity across all levels of the MRQ.
• Contribute to the development, delivery and implementation of the operational service delivery plan and state-based emergency management initiatives and outcomes.
• Provide strategic advice and direction on the development of strategies, frameworks, and policies to build resilience and deliver on initiatives within the MRQ.
• Develop strong working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders regarding disaster management activities and/or issues to ensure requirements are met and business objectives achieved.
• Represent, liaise, and negotiate for QPS and the State at high level cross agency committee meetings and working groups in building awareness and strengthening community resilience and disaster management outcomes.
• Prepare and review complex reports, briefs, submissions, and other correspondence in relation to incident management, search and rescue and disaster management capability and capacity, in accordance with Queensland community requirements.
• Facilitate capacity for engagement in post event analysis, debriefs and lessons, including developing improvement strategies, and resolving gaps in local, regional, and operational capacity and/or capability.
• Lead and manage a multi-disciplinary team, through effective human resource and financial management practices, including developing staff through performance, planning and review.
Role Requirements
Mandatory
• Minimum C Class Driver's License (non-restricted)
Qualification
• Formal Marine Qualifications are highly desirable
Technical/ Operational/ Educational experience
• Demonstrated experience in the planning, coordination, and management of maritime services, specifically relating to community and maritime safety will be highly regarded.
Other
• Capacity to support operational duties during disaster events. This may require work outside of normal hours (e.g. night shift), including weekends, working extended hours and may include deployment to other parts of the State.
• Ability to travel intra-state in alignment with service requirements
