The Role
As an analyst in the Future Energy team, you will support the development of models and analysis to best place Origin as it leads the energy transition. The Market Modeller provides quantitative insight into electricity and renewable markets, assisting with short and long-term market and economic modelling, asset modelling, competitor assessment and strategic positioning in the electricity and carbon sectors.
The principal responsibility of the role is maintaining and operating modelling tools which encapsulate the risks and opportunities that Origin’s assets will face through the energy transition. Specifically forecasts of price, supply and demand of electricity and carbon markets, and optimisation tools to assess portfolio and asset level resilience against this forward looking view of markets.
The analysis provides key inputs into the valuation, negotiation and operation of strategic investments, acquisitions and opportunities within existing and potential markets, and in advising energy policy development as well as for enterprise level Strategic Planning.

Key responsibilities:
- Modelling and analysing wholesale price, supply and demand forecasts for Australian energy markets to be used throughout the business
- Provide market analysis and insight into Australian energy markets
- Assist in the development of market models to analyse how electricity and carbon markets will solve for both price and quantity, and portfolio models which determine how Origin’s assists perform in these markets
- Preparation of presentations and analysis to communicate opportunities, including recommendations which are distributed to senior management
- Build and maintain modelling database, visualisation tools and reports which link market history to forecast outcomes
Is This You?
Through your previous experience you can demonstrate you have:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications (finance, commerce, economics, engineering) are essential
- 2 to 5 years commercial experience analysing and modelling markets, technologies and commodities
- Highly numerate and analytical and strong modelling skills
- Intermediate level data management and programming skills
- Advanced level of database skills (SQL/Oracle) highly beneficial
- Experience in working with BI tools such as Power BI or Tableau
- Modelling skills in electricity market simulation tools such as PLEXOS highly beneficial
