About the Role:
Our client is a successful family-owned Gold Coast business supplying products to the mining industry. As an established brand, they have a strong reputation as a market leader that prides itself on delivering reliable and quality products backed up with excellent customer support.
As a result of strong strategic growth they are now seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support their next growth phase. The role will be particularly rewarding as you’ll be able to see the impact your work has on the success of the business through delivery of ongoing improvements. With a collaborative culture and all design and manufacturing work done in-house, the role allows for ‘hands-on’ involvement while working closely with other departments.
The successful person will need to be capable of taking ideas and turning those into designs suitable for low volume production, enabled by the delivery of quality manufacturing drawings and documentation. Knowledge of steel fabrication and integrating our factory workflows and processes into your designs will be essential, along with a focus on innovating whilst still controlling manufacturing costs.
Ideally, you’ll enjoy solving tricky problems, have an eye for detail with a strong focus on quality outputs. You will enjoy working in a flexible and dynamic team environment and will be both keen to learn and have the opportunity to share your own ideas.

Duties:
Working within the engineering team, you’ll be responsible for a wide range of tasks and deliverables, including:
Creating detailed 3D CAD models of the existing product range in SolidWorks
Translating those 3D CAD models into high quality 2D drafts suitable for manufacturing
Providing sound mechanical designs for new products as well as updates and improvements to existing products
Perform calculations to validate designs and ensure compliance with relevant standards
Select off-the-shelf components from external suppliers
Produce bill of materials and build specifications required for manufacturing
Provide technical support to customers and other internal departments
Updating or creating technical written documents such as user manuals, risk assessments, reports, technical datasheets, procedures, testing and commissioning plans, etc
Undertake reviews of peer work to ensure compliance and manufacturing suitability
Skills and Experience:
Relevant Tertiary Qualifications along with a minimum of 5 years' experience in similar role within mining, manufacturing and/or related industries
Experience with SolidWorks and AutoCAD software is not essential but will be advantageous. If you haven’t used this software before, experience with similar software is a must
Strong understanding of low volume manufacturing, particularly steel and sheet metal fabrication and machining
Sound understanding of Australian Standards for mechanical steelwork design
Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems will be highly regarded
Ability to self-start, take ownership of assigned tasks and work autonomously
Strong oral and written English communication skills
