- An exciting part-time opportunity is available for an experienced medical practitioner with general practice experience to apply their clinical knowledge
- This role enables you to make a difference in protecting the health and safety of the NSW public and maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and behaviour for the NSW medical practitioners
Role Outline
The Medical Advisor works collaboratively with the Medical Director. They are the sole source of medical advice for the provision of high level, authoritative, professional medical expertise and support to the Council. In addition, they also support staff in relation to complaints about the conduct, performance and/or health of medical practitioners in NSW and medical practitioners in NSW who are subject to compliance monitoring.
The Medical Advisor provides professional input to all aspects of the Council’s strategic direction as well as its internal and external operations, including management of relationships with key stakeholder groups.
The Medical Advisor works independently in leading and managing projects and provides expert advice to formulate strategic and innovative solutions and oversee the development, review and evaluation of programs, policies, business and process improvement projects and risk management activities to enhance and achieve the Council’s and HPCA’s objectives and functions.

You are required to submit a one page covering letter, including a short statement in response to the two targeted questions below:
- Describe an experience in your clinical or professional life that required you to assess and manage risk. e.g. a "near miss" clinical situation, a practice complaint, concerns about a peer's health and capacity to practice, an issue related to ethical standards. Describe how you approached this issue.
- Describe an experience where you led or delivered a project to achieve strategic reform objectives.
The successful candidate will have:
- Registration as a medical practitioner
- Demonstrated experience working as a general practitioner combined with a thorough understanding of the working environment of general practice in the Australian health care system.
- Postgraduate qualifications in public health and extensive expertise and up-to-date knowledge of current clinical practice standards, clinical governance and contemporary medical ethics
An attractive remuneration package within the range of $240,650 to $276,250 per annum, with annual performance reviews, will be negotiated with the successful applicant.
