The Clinical Director provides clinical leadership for staff at the Barbara Walker Centre For Pain Management (BWCPM) and is directly responsible for the BWCPM Medical workforce. The Clinical Director works collaboratively with the relevant HIP Stream Manager and the Team Leader to ensure the delivery of a high quality, multi-disciplinary state-wide pain service. This includes:
- leading a collaborative approach to service planning, strategic development and research;
- supporting the efficient management of resources;
- the delivery and evaluation of accessible, contemporary, innovative and exceptional patient-centred care;
- key accountability for the standard of care and patient outcomes within the service;
- clinical leadership to staff ensuring delivery of a cohesive and collaborative approach to patient care within the multidisciplinary team.
- supporting the BWCPM Team Leader to efficiently manage the operational demands of the BWCPM.
Your Contribution
- Faculty of Pain Medicine qualification – Specialist Pain Medicine Physician FFPMANZCA
- Fellowship of another specialty college such as Anaesthesia, Rehabilitation, GP, Surgery, Physician, Psychiatry
- Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
- Indemnification with recognised Medical Defence Association
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a Pain Medicine Specialist
- Eligibility to obtain Medicare provider number for BWCPM location to work under a Private Practice Agreement in public hospital (100% donation model)

The BWCPM is located at St Vincent’s Hospital Fitzroy, and is predominantly an ambulatory (outpatient) inter-disciplinary service that provides assessment, treatment and consultation for patients with persistent pain. The service comprises specialist pain clinicians (Pain Medicine Physicians, Pain Medicine trainees, Psychiatrist, Physiotherapists, Psychologists, Clinical Nurse Consultants, Allied Health Assistant and Research Assistant) working as an integrated team to address the medical, physical and psycho-social factors contributing to the persistence of pain and its consequent disability. The clinic services a diverse group of clients from around Victoria, many with complex needs, offering treatment both individually and in groups. BWCPM delivers services to public, private and compensable patients (Transport Accident Commission & Worksafe).
