Job Description
We are hiring an additional Medical Officer into our Medical team in Sydney to initially cover Parental Leave and with the opportunity to become permanent.
The Medical team consists of Medical Officers who provide support to many core functions across TAL including Claims, Underwriting, Product, and other business units.
TAL's Medical Officers are responsible for providing evidence-based reviews of customer medical infor12mation during underwriting and at time of claim. This role supports and coaches claims staff and underwriters to interpret and obtain relevant, specific medical information for the purpose of their assessment of new business applications or claims.
As subject matter experts with experience reviewing underwriting applications and claims, our Medical Officers provide medical insights and analysis of information to a wide range of stakeholders across TAL, supporting the review and development of medical definitions, processes, guidelines, training and contributing to new health related initiatives across the customer lifecycle.
What will you be responsible for?
- Timely review and feedback on individual underwriting applications and claims related to medical factors
- Providing efficient, evidence-based recommendations related to medical information or seeking medical information that considers the customer experience, regulatory compliance and business requirements
- Supporting liaison with treating parties and reinsurers on specific cases
- Providing insights and data on health-related factors observed during the course of providing medical reviews that support the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement and guide the health strategy across TAL
- Effectively engaging TAL's Chief Medical Officer on complex medical matters and where required engaging with external medical specialists
- Supporting the review and development of medical definitions, guidelines and training where required
- Providing an analysis of medical data to support pricing assumptions
- Supporting and collaborating effectively with colleagues within the Physical Health team to manage workloads, identify and implement activities which allow the efficient and effective provision of medical support to stakeholders
Qualifications
What are we looking for?
- MBBS or MD, current registration with the Medical Board of Australia is desirable
- 5 or more years of clinical practice including at least 1 year in Australia, some mental health experience would be highly valued
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to simplify information for non medical colleagues
- Experience using MS Office, and able to learn new computer, database systems and processes effectively
- Ability to make reasoned and where possible evidence-based choices, weighing up risks and outcomes
- Ability to establish alliances, engage in networking and create connections
- Ability to support others to proactively identify customer issues and opportunities to resolve them
- High level negotiation skills and experience resolving complex issues
- Actively develops and achieves sustainable goals based on strategy within agreed timeframes
- Able to work in a team environment, and proven adaptability and collaborative skills
- Already located in Australia with full working rights is a must
