The Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) (RFDS) is seeking skilled, compassionate, and adventurous Medical Officers to join our team in providing invaluable services to regional and remote patients.
The RFDS delivers comprehensive general practice services via regular clinics in rural towns, remote stations, mine sites and islands. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team the RFDS Medical Officer delivers services across a broad range of Primary Health Care (PHC) presentations including both chronic and acute.
We currently have PHC roles available in Cairns. This role is:

You would describe yourself as a passionate, reliable, hardworking and committed individual, and meet the following specific criteria:
- Registration with AHPRA as Medical Practitioner
- Fellowship of the RACGP or ACRRM
- 5 years of post-graduate experience in primary care
- Ability to meet Medical Officer– PHC credentialing requirements
- Previous experience in rural and remote health delivery and emergency medicine is highly desirable
- Clinical Service delivery (history taking, examination, decision making, diagnostics ordering and interpretation, clinical procedures, specialist referrals or secondary care admissions)
- Clinical care of an acute or emergent patient, pending the attendance of retrieval services
- Telehealth consultations (utilising telephone, videoconference, email)
- Collaborative approach with other care providers to ensure integrated patient care
- Advice to nurses and other health professionals as required
- Quality improvement activities (clinical audits and case reviews)
- Respectful understanding of cultural diversity including traditional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander views of health

To ensure the health and safety of our staff, our patients, and these communities, as well as to manage the risks involved in service delivery and COVID-19 transmission in these communities and our workplaces, our staff are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
