About the role
Project Location – Iagifu Ridge, Papua New Guinea
Fixed Term Contract – 12 months
Reporting to the Senior Medical Officer and based at the Ridge Clinic, this role is an integral member of the healthcare team, collaborating with all team members to deliver a safe, evidence-based, and timely primary and preventative services on a 24-hour basis to the company’s workforce and the communities where the company operates in accordance with company policy, medical standards, procedures, and protocols. This role is open to PNG nationals only.
Working in compliance with Santos Management System (SMS), Santos Delegation of Authority (DOA) and Santos Corporate Governance and Safety requirements, key responsibilities of the role include though are not limited to:
Clinical:
- Performing additional duties within qualifications, as directed by the Senior Medical Officer, working as one team to deliver quality healthcare within qualifications.
- Maintaining your allocated medical clinic to the highest standards of hygiene and orderliness to ensure a safe workplace for staff and patients.
- Acting as the accountable lead of all healthcare professionals working at the Ridge, Gobe and KMT clinics including nominated drilling, seismic and ad-hoc project clinics in the Ridge area to ensure that medical service objectives are delivered in accordance with agreed healthcare documentation and that healthcare professionals are delivering care within their qualifications, ability and confidence.
- Ensuring patient assessments, preliminary and definitive diagnoses, initial and ongoing treatment and management plans are implemented in accordance with triage priorities, healthcare protocols and procedures. Discuss all critical, serious or complicated patients with the Senior Medical Officer.
- Acting as the point of contact for all enquiries from non-medical personnel located at Ridge, Gobe, KMT and nominated ad-hoc project locations.
- Participating in the medical response to an extraordinary medical event (eg MIMMS) inclusive of attending Medical/IMT/EMT meetings as required.
- Supporting the Emergency Response and Evacuation Team in their response to emergencies and evacuations inclusive of providing support as requested by the evacuation team which may include administrative matters such as contacting receiving medical officers and hospital, arranging aircraft and/or conducting the duties of a medical attendant for the response/evacuation.
Administrative :
- Recommending amendments to healthcare documentation and participating in medical service leadership meetings.
- Supporting the Senior Medical Officer to ensure all line staff complete their performance objectives and reviews summarising feedback to the individual in collaboration with the Senior Medical Officer.
- Supporting the wellbeing team to implement health-related programs by providing advice and information related to the delivery of initiatives.
- Relieving other healthcare professionals at company clinics when directed by the Senior Medical Officer.
- Maintaining professional development currency by delivery and participation in education sessions/requirements.
- Participating in clinical and administrative audits as requested.
- Completing personal and line reports’ performance objectives and reviews.
- Providing ad-hoc and monthly reports as requested by the Senior Medical Officer.
About you
To be successful in this position the ideal candidate will have the below skills and capabilities:
- Minimum of 7 years post-graduate experience including 3 years working in a remote and rural setting
- MBBS. Registration with the PNG professional governing body.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Major Incident Medical Management & Support (MIMMS), and Emergency and Evacuation (PNG) Certification
- Other senior and relevant specialty qualification relating to rural and remote healthcare, emergency and major incidents and/or general healthcare practice.
- Early Management of Severe Trauma (EMST)
- Excellent written, verbal communication skills across a multicultural workforce
- Superior skills in biomedical equipment operation
- Superior skills in Microsoft / data base applications
- Willingness to be vaccinated or currently hold a recognised Vaccination Card
