Seeking to appoint 1x parttime role (2 days per week)

About Social Model of Health
The Social Model of Health Division at the Women’s has responsibility for ensuring the hospital’s clinical and social support services are coordinated, aligned and leveraged to provide wrap around care for the women who need it most. In particular, the division has a focus on ensuring a woman’s social, economic, cultural, environmental, geographic, and other factors are taken into account in her care plan with the overall aim of reducing health inequalities and addressing systemic inadequacies that affect health access and outcomes.
Informed by a strong evidence base, the Social Model of Health Division works to ensure the Women’s can offer a continuum of care approach depending on the complexity of each women's clinical presentation and social circumstances. The division plays a key role in guiding and supporting a number of specialist services aswell as providing state-wide leadership and advocacy on a number of issues in this space.
This is a newly formed division bringing together a number of established and critical clinical and social services including;
- Women’s Mental Health Service
- Social Work
- Badjurr-Bulok Wilam - our Aboriginal Health Liaison Service
- Family Accommodation
- Spiritual Care
- Women’s Alcohol and Drug Services
- A range of highly specialised services focused on violence against women, including the Strengthening Hospital Response to Family Violence program, the Centre Against Sexual Assault service and the Sexual Assault Crisis Line
- The Cornelia Project, a new multi-agency service focused on providing residential care to homeless mothers and babies
Your contribution
In this role you will be a critical member of Women's Mental Health Service (WMHS) alongside a small team of psychiatrists and psychologists. The WMHS is located within the Social Model of Health (SMOH) Division and we work closely with our other SMOH colleagues. This role requires you to be a pivotal member of the Women's Mental Health team. The role triages all Outpatient referrals from and ensures that women are appropriately connected with either internal Mental Health services or external providers for management/treatment/support of their current Mental Health issue. the Clinician will provide support to staff round the care of complex inpatient and outpatient presentations and is activelyinvovled in education for our non Mental Health colleagues.
In the future it is envisaged that this role, in partnership with the Social Work team, will develop and implement a system of triage across psychiatry, psychology and social work channeling referrals to the most appropriate psychosocial clinician (Mental Health or social work). The position offers an exciting opportunity for the incumbent to assist with the development of new systems of multidiciplinary care across the Social Model of Health Division.
About you
To be successful within this role you will need to have:
- Appropriate Post Graduate qualification(s) in Mental Health (Nursing, Psychology, Allied Health) or equivalent such as - specialist undergraduate psychiatric nursing program, specialist post basic course of training which led to registration as a Division 3 nurse
- If a registered health practitioner, a current registration with the relevant board through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
- If a health practitioner, current registration with the relevant professional body (e.g. Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW))
- A number of years post qualification experience suitable to the requirements of the role
- High level of clinical expertise in the application of Mental Health skills
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Mental Health issues within the maternity and/or women’s health setting
- Demonstrated experience in the provision and delivery of education and training to non-Mental Health clinicians
- Experience in working within a triage model of Mental Health care delivery
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively as part of the multidisciplinary team and with multiple key stake holders.
