An exciting opportunity exists to join NSW Health’s largest Mental Health service.

HNELHD Mental Health Services delivers mental health care across the Hunter New England Health district which covers metropolitan, regional and rural areas of NSW. It employees over 1700 mental health staff members who deliver comprehensive and specialist mental health services.  We are committed to serving mental health consumers, carers and their families, to lived experience and co-design, and to providing culturally diverse, safe and inclusive care.

Mental Health services provide a range of inpatient services and community mental health care, from prevention and early intervention to treatment, rehabilitation and continuing care. The focus of these services is to provide timely and effective care and to empower consumers to become resilient, independent and to self-manage their illness and recovery. Our services are organised by geographical location and covers all age groups including child and adolescent, adult and older people.

This position will be located within the Mental Health Administration Building at the Mater Campus, however will be expected to travel across the district as needed.

About the role:


The Operations Manager is a new role on the Mental Health Executive and will report directly to the General Manager. By working collaboratively with the HNEMH Executive Team and Service Managers the Operations Manager is responsible for the leadership and operational delivery of high quality, locally responsive and consumer focused services.

The position will be responsible for all aspects of operational management of MH services within its portfolio through 12 direct service manager reports. In addition to operational management the role will be responsible for Community Mental Health and Rehabilitation models of care.

As a Senior Leader, the operations manager will be active in the engagement of internal and external stakeholders for the purposes of establishing positive and constructive relationships. Together through partnership identifying opportunities for improving the delivery of MH services across the continuum of care at both local and district level.

The Operations Manager will lead a culture of Excellence and safety, with a strong commitment to the values of diversity and cultural respect in accordance with HNE Health's Closing the Gap strategy.

Orientation, education and training along with professional development and supervision will be will be provided.

About you:

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated and proactive individual that is seeking an exciting opportunity to demonstrate their senior leadership and management skills in Mental Health. You will be a leader who is passionate about the provision of high quality, locally responsive and consumer focused services across Mental Health.


As a people leader, you will have the ability to build effective management teams, motivate, mentor and engage staff in different working groups. Including the ability to lead, implement and champion change and redesign. Your superior level of communication, interpersonal, verbal and written consultative and negotiation skills with the ability to exhibit high level of problem solving skills will be essential to your success in this role.

You will love a challenge and to be effective in this role you will have significant experience in the management of health or human services including a solid track record in the achievement of budget and performance targets whilst delivering high quality and safe services.

Information for Applicants:
