At Alcoa our mining is quite unique, we are privileged to be able to operate in one of the most beautiful parts of our country and sustainability and rehabilitation of that land is core in our everyday practices. We are currently offering opportunities for individuals to start their mining career with us as one of our Mine Operator Trainees.
Working for one of the world’s most innovative and community focused Bauxite Mine operations, these roles will provide you experience across either production, rehabilitation or development whilst enabling you to be at home every night.
As a Mine Operator Trainee, Alcoa will provide all the encouragement, support and tools you need to thrive in your career as you start out in the mining industry. You don’t need to have industry experience, but the right motivation, an inclusive working attitude and a passion to learn about heavy mobile equipment. Our crews work closely as collaborative and supportive individuals, celebrating and respecting people’s differences and providing an inclusive and dynamic work environment.
This 12-month Traineeship provides on and off the job competency-based training whilst working in a challenging and high-tech environment. Working to complete TAFE studies, you will be rewarded with a nationally recognised qualification in Certificate II in Surface Extraction Operations on completion of the traineeship
Our supportive learning environment accompanied by our experienced and helpful trainers by your side; every day will be different as you are:
  • Gaining a sound knowledge of environmental and safety principles and applying these daily
  • Contributing to the team environment by participating in toolbox discussions and initiatives
  • Operating a variety of heavy mobile equipment such as haul trucks and small excavators
  • Assisting in servicing, maintaining, and monitoring the equipment in a safe and efficient manner
  • Potential to work alongside our shotfirers in our blast crews
  • Using problem solving skills, participating in productivity improvements and initiatives
  • Working various shift work rosters across the 12-month program, including nights and weekends in our 24/7 operation.
About you
To be successful in this Mine Operator Traineeship and play a part in our ongoing success we are seeking someone with:
  • WA C Class Manual Licence (unrestricted)
  • A strong dedication to safety.

  • Motivation to work autonomously with a high-level resourcefulness and flexibility
  • A passion and drive to learn and develop
  • A willingness to contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
  • A good grasp of computer systems in a work environment
