About the Role
Queensland Coal comprises the BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) and BHP Mitsui Coal (BMC) assets in the Bowen Basin in Central Queensland, Australia. BMA is Australia’s largest coal producer and supplier of seaborne metallurgical coal. BMA is owned 50:50 by BHP and Mitsubishi Development. BMA operates seven Bowen Basin mines (Goonyella Riverside, Broadmeadow, Daunia, Peak Downs, Saraji, Blackwater and Caval Ridge) and owns and operates the Hay Point Coal Terminal near Mackay.
Working flexible commute arrangements on an 8/6 roster at Daunia mine you will be reporting to the Mine Scheduling Superintendent as a Mining Engineer you will be primarily involved in providing design, scheduling and execution direction within the +1 to 16 week time frame at our Daunia Mine Operation, although you will have exposure to multiple other activities across the site.
As the world’s first fully autonomous haul truck coal mine you will use your already solid mine planning skills and experience in this exciting short-term mine planning role to develop effective and rewarding working relationships with the operational and medium-term planning teams. This role will provide you the opportunity to gain experience in many aspects of Mine Planning; traditional excavation and dump designs, scheduling and haulage planning for autonomous truck operations and a wide variety of associated improvement projects.
This is a great opportunity to hone your mine planning and leadership skills as well as further develop a deep understanding of the key value drivers within a geologically complex open cut mining operation, while being part of a supportive, inclusive and successful team.
Your Responsibilities:-
- Prepare truck shovel designs and schedules to optimise for safe and productive operations;
- Build relationships with and obtain buy in from the operations teams for plans, schedules and designs;
- Identify interactions and key enabling activities and put plans in place to manage these;
- Identify and implement Mine Planning improvement initiatives;
- Develop and follow the Mine Planning standards and processes;
- Participate in the investigation of reported events for Mine Planning; and
- Participate in training for Mine Planning.
About You
Ideally you will have a Tertiary education in Engineering discipline along with strong communication, organisation and stakeholder management skills.
You will be safety focused, team oriented and enjoy continuous improvement and driving for results & ideally have previous experience in a similar role working for an organisation in the mining sector.
You will have:
- Knowledge and experience in mine design and scheduling (Vulcan or Deskwik & SPRY preferred);
- Open cut coal mining methods, including truck & shovel, dozer push and terrace mining;
- Working knowledge of Geotechnical, Geology, processing and Survey process;
- Well-developed analytical, interpretive and constructive/ lateral thinking skills.
