Join the team

Reporting to the Head of Health and Safety, you will join an organisation that drives a safety-first culture in every instance. In this highly strategic role, your main goal will be to provide leadership and direction in the implementation of Health & Safety standards by collaborating with all Distribution Centres (DC’s) across Australia and New Zealand. You will need to be flexible and resilient with the role demanding frequent travel across all DC locations. Candidates from NSW, QLD and VIC are welcome to apply and will be based out of the respective DC’s in these locations.

What You’ll Be Doing

As the National Safety Manager, you will:
Lead and execute Kmart’s safety strategy across our Distribution Centres in Australia and New Zealand.
Create a collaborative environment for continuous improvement across safety parameters and implement best practice across all DCs.
Conduct safety inspections onsite and ensure critical controls are in place as per regulatory safety standards.
Develop safety management plans and prepare safe work instructions for submission and review by the safety risk and compliance group.
Guide and coach teams (including one direct reportee), DC Administrators, Store safety representatives, facilities management and third-party contractors to assure safety standards are delivered.
Identify safety system improvements which will aid in the delivery of a step change in safety compliance and a safety-first culture.
Participate in procurement processes and ensure equipment compliance with Australian and New Zealand standards
Define safety integrity levels and incorporate this into Kmart’s critical risk programme.

To be successful in this role you will have:
Minimum 7-10 years’ experience in a similar capacity
A diploma in Workplace Health and Safety at minimum, however a bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline / engineering will be advantageous.
Knowledge of state wide Operational Health and Safety Legislations
Prior experience in safety management systems and implementation of same at a national level
Strong stakeholder management, communication, and the ability to exert influence as needed across all levels of the organisation.
High self-awareness including meticulous planning and project management skills
The ability to meet the demands of frequent travel within Australia and New Zealand.
