Munich Re is the leading reinsurer in the Australasian Non Life market and offers both treaty and facultative reinsurance support for all the main classes of business including Property, Engineering Liability, Motor and Marine.
The Climate Management function is focused on developing business opportunities within new sectors; notably Banking, Asset Management and Green Tech. Their aim is to help these industries to better understand, measure and manage our physical climate risk exposure within their portfolios.
Reporting to the Head of Climate Analytics, you will support the core business, their clients and new clients by applying the latest research to develop leading methods of Natural Peril and climate risk assessment.
Your Role
- Maintain natural catastrophe modelling capabilities in the region, with a focus on projecting the impacts of climate change
- Perform event response analytics following the occurrence of natural catastrophe events
- Develop efficient approaches to solve analytical problems and communicate results and methodologies to different audiences
- Identify what data, both internally and externally, is available and use new data collection processes
- Collaborate with industry and subject matter experts to investigate relevant sources of Natural Peril and climate risk information
- Act as an analytics expert and provide commercially sound advice to clients and other teams
- Contribute to sales/marketing efforts through drafting proposals and responses to RFPs
- Build relationships with other analytics units globally and be a contributor to the Munich Re analytics community
- Interpret and present analysis and results to clients of all technical skill levels
- Tertiary level qualification(s) in statistics, climate science, meteorology, earth sciences mathematics, actuarial science, or a related scientific field
- 5+ years of commercial experience in an analytical role within the insurance or reinsurance industry
- Experience in natural catastrophe modelling or climate risk analytics
- Experience delivering advisory projects to clients from initial scoping, response to tenders and through to delivery
- Experience working with a broad range of non-insurance financial services sectors such as banking and asset management
