Job description

As a Network Technician (NETECH) you are a cyberspace systems specialist responsible for the planning, operating, maintenance, architecture, management, assurance and governance of end-to-end cyberspace systems and capabilities.

In this highly diverse role, you will support the Air Force through the provision and secure management of networks. Network Technicians enable capable and resilient cyberspace systems for a fully-networked Air Force, fully integrating air, space, cyber and ground operations.

Training is provided in Network Technician areas of employment to provide the baseline skills you need to perform a range of networking and technical functions. Specific Information Communications Technology (ICT) and networking skills are baselined to industry standards (ie. Cisco Certified Networking Academy, Microsoft Official Curriculum). The Network Technician job group has a dedicated learning and development continuum that fosters ongoing technical growth and development.

During your career as a Network Technician, you can expect to be employed within some (or all) of the following specialist areas:

  • Mission support to flying squadrons and air operations – including F-35A Lightning II, P-8A Poseidon, EA-18G Growler, F/A-18F Super Hornet as well as operational satellite links
  • Generating, maintaining and certifying robust, interconnected and interoperable cyberspace systems
  • Assuring tactical air/ground communications
  • Adapt and integrate systems for compatibility with Air Force, ADF and coalition systems
  • Apply cyberspace assurance and auditing functions to mitigate network penetration and protect vulnerabilities
  • ICT coordination - involving planning, coordinating, and providing software, cyberspace and networking support
  • Network security – ensuring the integrity, auditability and security of Air Force voice and data networks
  • Maintenance and accreditation of end-to-end cyberspace systems.

Network Technicians can expect to routinely work within a range of working conditions from office environments and high security areas to aircraft tarmacs and hangars. This may include irregular duty hours including shift work. Deployed working conditions will be reflective of the tactical environment Network Technicians are required to operate in.
