A leading Australian charity is seeking a talented and experienced Public Relations Specialist to join their team for a dynamic 8-month contract (until January 31st, 2025).
The Opportunity:
This part-time role (9-15 hours per week) will play a critical role in propelling the success of a major fundraising campaign to leverage the 20th Anniversary of the Indian Ocean Boxing Day Tsunami. You'll develop a comprehensive PR strategy to generate significant media buzz and propel the campaign towards its ambitious fundraising goal of $1 million.
Key Responsibilities:
- Proactive Media Outreach: Craft a media outreach strategy targeting relevant outlets, develop compelling press releases and pitches, secure media interviews for key spokespeople, and track placements highlighting the campaign and the charity's impact.
- Media Monitoring & Reactive Communication: Set up a robust media monitoring system, develop clear messaging points, promptly respond to media inquiries, and track response rates to ensure timely and effective communication.
- Social Media Management (Founder Profile): Create engaging content for Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn to raise profile, foster positive online engagement and promote the campaign organically.
- Reporting & Analysis: Prepare regular reports summarising media placements, website traffic, and social media engagement. Analyse the effectiveness of efforts and present key findings for informed decision-making.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 3 years of experience in Public Relations or a relevant field.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong media relations experience with a proven track record of securing media placements.
- Experience with media monitoring and measurement tools preferred.
- Passion for social good and an understanding of the impact of the Boxing Day Tsunami are a plus.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines efficiently.
- Proficiency in major social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn etc.).
