This newly created position will join the management team within the Public Health Unit and use their nursing experience and skills to coordinate and develop nursing staff across the Immunisation and Communicable diseases teams.

Where you'll be working

Hornsby Hospital.

The Public Health Unit is a district wide service focusing on health protection issues in the areas of immunisation, communicable diseases and environmental health. The unit is in the process of developing proactive projects to address pressing public health issues relevant to the residents of the Northern Sydney Local Health District. The unit forms part of the NSW Public Health Network and collaborates with Health Protection NSW and other public health units on relevant public health challenges.

What you'll be doing

The Nurse Manager (NM) is part of the Public Health Executive team and together provides senior leadership to build a high performing culture and management and accountability for all Public Health Unit staff, and ensure all nursing clinical practice is consistent and in accordance with evidenced based practice of public health. They will coordinate and manage day-to-day operations of the Immunisation team and support the management of other nursing staff within the public health unit. Specific responsibilities include providing oversight for rostering of nursing staff, ensuring nursing staff have current registration, supporting nursing staff with professional development, and supporting the Director and team managers in addressing any performance management concerns of nursing staff.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  • Current Registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) Registered Nurse Division 1.
  • Extensive leadership experience in the delivery of public health programs, specifically immunisation services and recent experience in nursing management positions and post graduate management qualification and/or relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated skills in strategic and clinical service planning including an understanding of organisational behavior, change management and cultural change processes and a proven ability to implement successful organisational change.
  • Proven leadership qualities and the ability to set priorities, establish and achieve agreed objectives.
  • Highly developed communication skills with the ability to use critical thinking skills in problem solving and demonstrated understanding of Microsoft Office computer applications, electronic medical records and Public Health related applications.
  • Effective negotiation and conflict management skills with the ability to motivate staff and maintain effective relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to be innovative, creative, motivational and self-directed with workplace projects and clinical innovation which reflect person centred care priorities.
