About the Role
The Office of the Mayor – Executive Communications Officer provides communications and executive support and advice for the Office of the Mayor to meet business unit needs.
The role is responsible for assessing, analysing, researching, and dealing with issues before escalation on behalf of the Mayor for the benefit of the Bayside community.
The position holder will ensure that all communications aligns with the organisation’s strategic direction, correspondence standards and provides our community with exceptional and timely customer service.
You can also expect to;
- Prepare Mayoral communications and distribute information to the community in line with Council’s communications framework.
- Draft, prepare and review high-level and quality communication and written information in the form of briefs, reports, emails and correspondence on behalf of the Mayor.
- Investigate, follow up and coordinate, collate and provide background information to prepare content required to respond to routine and complex enquiries, issues, complaints and requests for information.
- Undertake research and draft speeches and media releases for the Mayor.
- In consultation with the Communications and Events Business Unit contribute to the development of communication strategies and solutions for key Council matters.
- Develop and foster working relationships with senior leaders and managers across Council to maintain open channels of communication between the Mayoral Office and the organisation and to obtain and manage information flow.
- Promote the positive and collaborative culture and values of the organisation through open, fair and transparent decision making and ethical, professional behaviour.
- Work in collaboration with and assist the team, manager, and other key stakeholders to achieve business unit goals, work requests, demands and Council priorities.
About You
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to communicate complex information to a diverse range of stakeholders in an ethical and professional manner that maintains confidentiality, privacy and discretion.
- Capable of managing competing demands, priorities and expectations, and providing a consistent high-level support given the need to respond to urgent requests for information and to address unforeseen issues in a high volume environment with short deadlines.
- Maintaining awareness and knowledge across a range of Council service and program areas and of complexities and political sensitivities.
- Tertiary qualifications and /or equivalent experience
