About Norton Gold Fields

Norton Gold Fields is one of Australia’s largest domestic gold producers, with recent annual production of up to 200,000 ounces. The Company has a mining and processing complex in Western Australia’s world-class Kalgoorlie goldfield region, including a highly prospective tenement package of more than 1,000km² surrounding the 3.8Mtpa Paddington Mill. 

Currently Norton Gold Fields is progressing its expansion of two underground mine sites namely Tuart and Enterprise and various OPEN PIT projects such as Federal, Jakarta, Golden Funnel, Rose Dam South and Rose Dam North this year.

Duties

  • Conduct risks assessments for field tasks at a team and individual level. 
  • Complete Take 5s before tasks, report and action any hazards and enter into Cintellate. 
  • Ensure Open Pit Geology light vehicles & first aid kits are properly maintained and serviced. 
  • Complete regular safety inspections during day-to-day duties and as directed. 
  • Attend and contribute to Open Pit Safety Toolbox meetings. 
  • Lead-on and organise all in-field production blast hole sampling activities and associated arrangements, which is the samplers primary focus. 
  • Have knowledge of and adhere to environmental and heritage restrictions/guidelines on Mining Leases. 
  • Assist Pit Technicians, Geologists & Surveyors in completing ore mark ups, as directed. 
  • Assist Pit Technicians and Geologists in completing any other sampling, beyond blast hole sampling, and conduct data management, as directed. 
  • Ensure samples meet the QC sampling standards before removal of samples from the drill site. 
  • Check every drill hole collar to ensure the samples are attributed to the correct holes. 
  • Report any non-compliance in sampling immediately to the Senior Geologist. 
  • Correctly ledger all drill samples and enter correctly into tracking sheets. 
  • Removing sample bags from the sample location in a timely manner (within 24hrs of sampling).
  • Assist Pit Technicians to ensure drill sites are adequately set up to meet safety and productivity standards, as directed.
  • Ensure sample submissions are completed correctly and submitted with each batch of samples sent to lab. 
  • Carry out the logistical arrangements necessary for timely sample pick up, transport and dispatch, including transport of any supplies.
  • Maintain electronic records of all sample submissions completed by the Open Pit Geology team, ensure paper copies and files are accessible 
  • Conduct any stockpile sampling, as directed.
  • Maintain inventories of equipment, field & PPE consumables. 
  • Adhere to directions and training from all geology department team members from Pit technicians to Superintendent, and report any questions to your supervisor.
  • Any other duties as required 

Qualifications 

  • Previous industry work experience desirable
  • Current unrestricted “C” Class WA Manual Drivers Licence.
  • Satisfactory GSDU / NPC clearance.
  • Senior First Aid Certificate (desirable)
  • Forklift Ticket (desirable)

Skills and Experience  

WORK KNOWLEDGE: 

  • Previous experience in Open Pits (any role) (Desirable).
  • Previous experience in sampling, sample processing, dispatch or handling (Desirable).
  • Experience in conducting geological/geochemical sampling programs (Desirable). 
  • Knowledge (or formal training) of geological sampling theory (Desirable).
  • 4WD competent and experience working outdoors in remote locations (Desirable).
  • Previous experience in administration (Desirable).
  • Previous experience in stock taking (Desirable).

COMPUTER SKILLS: 

  • Intermediate computer skills with Microsoft Word & Excel.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS: 

  • Mature team player with good communication skills. 
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively using the 2 way radio. 
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills. 
  • Able to speak, read and write legible English at an Australian Secondary School standard
