Position Title: Pain Management Senior Registrar

About the Role

Canberra Health Services (CHS) is focussed on the delivery of high quality, effective, person-centred care. It provides acute, sub-acute, primary, and community‐based health services, to the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) and surrounding regions. More information can be found on the

Provide competent and efficient clinical and population health management of patients of ACT Health under the supervision and direction of a Consultant Medical Practitioner.  The clinical management includes being part of a multi-disciplinary team providing input into the management of patients receiving Pain Management and other Pain Management services.

DUTIES

Under limited direction of the unit Director you will:

  1. Maintain a co-operative relationship with all relevant sections of the Canberra Health Services including the Emergency Department
  2. Participate in the supervision, training and professional development of junior medical staff and other staff as appropriate.
  3. Work within and support the multidisciplinary clinical team.
  4. Demonstrate progress in training in Pain Management by FPMANZCA including participation in the relevant teaching program and activities, and timely completion of all training and administrative requirements.
  5. Participate in the design, implementation and evaluation of health services.
  6. Contribute to clinical audit and participate in changes that improve quality and safety of patient care. Assist with the design and conduct of research studies that the Pain Management Unit is involved in.
  7. Maintain adequate and legible medical records and ensure that the clinical team completes all correspondence in a timely manner; and

8.    Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Position Requirements / Qualifications

Mandatory

·         Completed Primary Fellowship in one of the specialities approved by Faculty of Pain

              Medicine           

·         Be registered or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) in Primary Speciality prior to starting training in Pain Medicine.

·         Demonstrate commitment to training and continuing professional development including participation in relevant teaching programs, activities, and feedback opportunities, involvement in research, and teaching of junior medical staff and/or medical students.

  • Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (or equivalent) at an Australian university or Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery at an overseas university recognised by the Faculty of Pain Medicine, ANZCA as equivalent and, completed the Australian Medical Council exams.
  • Australian Citizen or hold Permanent Residency in Australia are given priority consideration over other candidates.
  • Successful application to The Pain Medicine Training Program Faculty of Pain Medicine, Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (see link below for details) The successful applicant will need to be available for weekend and after-hours work as needed.
  • CHS is leading the drive to digitally transform health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a territory wide Digital Health Record. Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates and contingencies.

Desirable Previous Pain Management experience at resident or registrar level

  • Varied clinical experience prior to Pain Management role e.g General Medical, Medical Specialty, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Surgical experience, Anaesthesia, Psychiatry
  • Relevant Research and Audit experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing Medical Education, Quality Assurance and Teaching
  • High standards of professional behaviour; integrity, punctuality, reliability, ethical practice.

These are the key selection criteria for how you will be assessed in conjunction with your resumé and experience. 

  1. Demonstrated sound clinical, supervisory, ethical and record keeping skills of clinical competence at a level commensurate with a postgraduate year three or above.
  2. Demonstrated commitment to continued professional development including advanced training in a medical speciality relevant to Pain Management.
  3. Evidence of the ability and commitment to working collaboratively in a multidisciplinary clinical team. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  4. Demonstrated ability to consistently display commitment to, compliance with and leadership in high quality Customer Service, Equity and Diversity, Occupational Health and Safety and Industrial Democracy principles and practices and relevant legislation to these areas; and

5.    Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, work, health and safety (WH&S) and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful and kind.
